Silly Donation Game

It's a shame I have to make up these silly games to get donations for the website that saves you big money with free advice from the master GRUMPY, but so be it if I must !!!!!!!!!!

My engine build thread has just gone over 40,000 views and I feel pretty good about that, but I need some help stroking my ego even further.

So here are the rules ......

For each positive comment I will pay $2 and for each comment on how to improve my next thread I will pay $4. I REALLY do want to know how to improve and what I'm already doing right so I can keep it up. There is a limit of 3 comments per person. So here is the kicker, you have to donate the same for each comment, geesh that's a maximum of $12 or a minimum of $2, surely you can afford $2. Come on now .....really $2.

Ok, the time frame for such comments is November 20th is the last day, that's 10 days for your little minds to conceive of something fun, serious or even negative to say. Yes I will pay for negative and welcome such comments, but I'm sure that's going to be several magnitudes harder for your minuscule minds to conjugate.

So what say you, have you got the gumption to say something ???

Hey Rick,

While I try to donate each month, I can appreciate that it must be a drainer to have to shake the tin can each month to get some support for Grumpy.....

I really enjoy your build thread and I've read it a couple of times already... My question about your build is... When I read it, I get overwhelmed by your attention to detail.... and while its obvious that Grumpy and everyone appreciates the lengths you went to.... without wanting to sound lazy or like I'm afraid of hard work.... If you had to give your perspective on what are the definitely must do aspects of your build and what were nice to do/I started and couldn't stop myself kind of things...? If that makes sense.?

Also, I still haven't found a solution to my missing donation avatars... Maybe it's to do with my location... I'll have to try the computer with the VPN on it..

That is such a great question Jimmy and worth the $12 it will cost me even if you can't
donate. It's like asking me ...... what makes me tick and that's going to take some
thought on my part. So until tomorrow I will have to sleep on that if you don't mind,
but I will be coming back with a more complete answer.

Awesome! I look forward to your thoughts (and anyone others' thoughts..)

I donated my $20 before I asked..... So your silly game served its purpose anyhow... ;)

Gosh I never thought about someone feeling overwhelmed by my build thread, that
certainly was not my intentions. I guess I'm driven by the fact that I'm the youngest
of 5 siblings and feel I must prove myself on every project I attempt. That and it just
runs in family males (3), we are all perfectionists.

Things you must do when building an engine is assume nothing fits until
checked by YOU. YOU must check every clearance possible with your skills and
tools available. Somethings just cannot be helped, only a machinist can do, but even
just a visual inspection ..... does it seem correct, is it logical that you feel a tiny bit of
play. I don't have a dial bore gauge to check piston clearance, but I can get reasonably
close with feeler gauges and sliding the piston in the bore with a .002 feeler gauge.
How does it feel? If there was a mistake of significant amount, it would show up.

So I guess what I'm saying is clearances are NUMBER 1, you don't want the engine
to tear itself up. Selecting the wrong part won't necessarily damage the engine, it just
won't perform like it could have. Get the clearances wrong and ...... bang!

The nice things that I like to do are remove sharp edges and polishing when it makes
sense. I hate sharp edges that end up cutting me as I work. They don't make any difference
in the engine's performance, but it's nice that they are gone. It's these nice things that turn
into I can't stop. Like smoothing the block's casting surface. I smoothed the entire engine
on the first block and then ended just setting it a side since the cylinder walls were too thin.
Probably had $100 in abrasives and 30 hours doing the block. Turn around and couldn't
stop on the new Dart SHP block, I had to smooth inside and out everywhere there was a
casting surface.

I do have to agree, clearances are of the upmost importance. I have seen Rick's engine up close and it does have a very nice paint job on it. Rick's attention to detail is what spurred me to spend a good bit time on my engine, and am hoping for a similar result. His engine build thread has many useful things that would assist anyone in doing it correctly.

I'm taking one requirement off, you do NOT have to contribute. For each comment I
will still pay, even if you just make up something.

Have some fun with my ego ...... I DARE YOU!!!

Just 4 days left!

I am having a hard time believing that no ones taking you up on a very valid offer to help the site out

Last day to play before it ends!!!

BTW, if you forgot, there is no donation required on your part. I will make donation for each comment.

Rick, I think people know. They might not be responding to your post because it would show they are not donating but you are.

I know you have the best interest in mind for everyone on this forum, but let's not lose site that this is a free to participate forum. The last thing we need to see is anyone feeling shamed into thinking they must send money and stop posting.
My belief is "sure," everyone here has a credit card, debit card or a check. While it's very little trouble to enter your information and donate a measly $5 the fact remains, many people are just bystanders and float-about, in and out of more than just 1 or 2 forums perhaps looking for answers or just killing time and they just don't donate for any reason. It's not about how much money one has or don't have. I know many wealthy people that would never give up a dollar for any charity and conversely, I know some that can't pay the bills they do have but still find something to help others.
Before this gets too long and people fall off to sleep reading, let's do some brain-storming and come up with other ideas to help off-set the costs to run this great forum opportunity.

thank you, its a very much appreciated help in maintaining the site!

I will donate soon, money is a pinch, last Friday was my last day at work. Found out vacation and severance don't apply to unemployment. Give me time to weigh out my current finances and I will give some.
