Silly question...

Why is it at idle, my timing seems to bounce around a few degrees at 800 RPM... but when I raise the RPM to 1000-1200 the spark reading seems to stabilize?

My timing is computer controlled - MSD6 2AL

Being out of the performance world for 12 years, I might be wrong, but you still have a distributor that is driven off the cam......right? The cam could be walking around at idle and making the timing change. But when you are above a 1000 RPM the cam's position becomes stable and therefore your timing is stable.

Did you use a "cam button" on the front of the cam. Did you check the camshaft end play?

That would explain it - and YIP, I have a cam button and I did check the end play. But yes the idle is slightly choppy... that would explain a things. Thanks!

Well - mine is as well. Just a spark here and there is tossed off... usually withn the same gap.
