I just purchased a used mt2500 scanner. It has the 1980 - 1990 trouble shooter cradtridege and the prinary cartridge. Anyone using this tool? I plan on purchasing some upgrades for my newer vehicles and was wondering how to pick out the updated cartridges. I see some are listed as pogrammable and have the trouble shooter cartridge listed with them and I see some are just communication interface and they state they do not require the TSI. Will the TSI, for the newer vehicles, work with the non-programmable cartridges?

when you get more info please post what you find as Im sure several people will be interested.
I don,t remember using one so I can,t comment

I will. Looks like I am charting new waters "again!". The local Chevy dealer techs use them,(and the have that neat TECH II available),but they are a bit closed mouth ( for obvious reasons) so it looks like trial and error.

OK, here is what I have learned so far. I purchased a used MT2500 with the diagnostic cartridges for my 1988 TransAm. Works fine. Lesson here is before you buy, see if you can find one that has updated cartridges, They have programmable ones and that is the way to go. If I had thought about this before purchasing, I would have spent $300+ more on the scanner and purchased one with the updated cartridges. Another thing to look for, on your initial purchase, is documentation. Without the books, it is hit or miss. So far I have spent more on accessories than on some of the more full optioned scanners. It is a nice tool, professional grade and I will post more as I learn. I like it better than my AutoXray. Please note, this tool is out of production so buying parts from Snap On is close to impossible. Lots of stuff on Ebay.
