Sold ! - S&W M&P Revolver .38 Spec.

I have a Smith & Wesson Military & Police Model 10 revolver that I no longer use. I would like to offer it for sale to our Forum members.

Most of these are chambered for .38 S&W. This one is chambered for .38 Special so it will handle either. It is in avg./good shape. Good bore, some wear on the bluing. The plastic staghorn grips come with it as does the trigger shoe.

I am in the Tampa area and would prefer to sell it to someone in central Florida.

Re: F/S - S&W M&P Revolver .38 Spec.

Case length and diameter. The .38 Special is a longer cartridge than the .38 S&W. The .38 S&W case has a larger diameter than a .38 Special. Bullet diameters vary slightly because the .38 S&W was originally an 'outside lubed' bullet seated into the case up to the 'heel' of the bullet whereas the .38 Special was loaded with a slightly smaller diameter bullet that was seated into the case with just the 'ogive' exposed.
SOme of the older .38 S&W's will allow a .38 Special to be chambered, due to the lack of a forcing cone in the cylinder chambers, but you should never fire a .38 Special in a .38 S&W because of the higher chamber pressures of the .38 Special. I don't think a .38 S&W will chamber into a modern .38 Special due to the larger case diameter of the .38 S&W.The 38 S&W uses a larger .361" bullet and not a .357" one like a 38 spc
