Still on the fence...

Still trying to figure out if I want to pull that body off or not. I'll have to wait4-6 weeks for the plates anyway.

I figure if I pull the body off, I can get a better look at the roller-skate, work the suspension and weatherproof the body and the skate. This car will be a daily driver and needs to last - and it will be outside. But I am not sure there is too much advantage to taking the body off - other than maybe putting it on a trailer for when it needs to be painted.

The job looks easy enough; a two man job and a few dozen bolts. Rust appears minimal. Just worried that once it's off, I'll have opened a can of worms and it won't be driving for a looong time...

Hmmmm

Incidentally - tomorrow I'm taking it to tech again. Second attempt - this time with 155/80R15 on all 4 corners. And if it passes, I bring her home.

imho, there doesn't seem to ever be a better time then right now to take off the body. as this KG becomes your daily driver you'll NEVER do it. Aside from a Bugeye Sprite, or some motorcycle engine mini-car, you wont find many other cars as easy to remove and replace the body. I've done two KG - a friends, and body off. At the time it was me that did the majority of the work with 2 floor jacks and 4 jack stands. It took a little less than 3 hrs. to disconnect everything, 2 hrs to hunt down my friend at the tavern and the remaining 4 hours of the day to repair rust spots and paint. the next day was detail work, replacing hardware (for cosmetics) and replacing the body (5 hours). Once it's done you'll say "I'm glad I did it!"

The one thing I would like to inform you about is KG's generate a lot of road noise (in the rain it drowned out the radio and conversation and forget using a cell phone. On the second KG I installed sound barrier everywhere I could and afterwards it was a completely different car. Since then I have installed barrier on every car I restored.
