you can read thru the sbc article , but pay close attention , it really cost them $1155 and conveniently, as usually, they find smoking (DEALS) few of us will ever see, as a start point, (like a rebuild-able roller cam 350 for $200) and they just happen to have a few parts already on the shelf they don,t need to pay for to complete the build, so they stay close to the limits in cost they set up.just about every time I visit the local machine shop its costs me 1/2 to 3/4 of that budget before we start even talking parts costs.
this reminds me strongly of that last BIG BLOCK build, where they made 707hp, but just happened to find a rebuild-able core 496 BBC for under, the cost of a bare block in most areas, as a start point.
now we all on occasion get deals at times , but its not that common.
