Hi there, GRUMPYVETTE!!
I,am trying to figure out a fix on a friends quad cruiser w/ x pipe installed.
The drivers side tips are protruding 3/4" from the rear of the body.No problems with the muffler or tips being too close to the body. The pass. side tip is protruding 1 3/4" from the rear & is only a finger width clearance at the corner of the body.I have checked the measurement from the tranny bracket. This is what I got 30 1/2" on the drivers & 29 1/4" on the pass. Should be 31 1/2" & 30" the same as a Corsa sytem. He is happy with the drivers side. My question is how to make the pass. side equal to the drivers side? If the bracket measurement(h pipe cut mark) was correct where would the length of tips be at? My guess would be the tips would be flush with the curved part of the body or slightly under the license plate area.
I,am thinking of taking this car to a muffler shop & have them cut & flare the pipe, then weld the over axle pipe,This should move the muffler towards the front of the car & give extra clearance at the corner of the body.Should also even the pass. side tip length to match the drivers side.
Where would you cut the axle pipe at? Near the flange area? Would you start over & and make the correction at the x pipe & cut again to get the 31 1/2" & 30" factory spec. from the tranny bracket? Are their any pictures available from the rear of the car with the quad cruiser exhaust installed?
Thanks for any advice or recommendations

this is one more example of why a decent welder is such a good tool to have in your shop, theres no sense in getting crazy or involving a muffler shop thats likely to charge $50-$60 or more for something you can easily fabricate, your self, its constant little jobs like this that make owning a welder a great investment that easily pays for itself in far less time than you may imagine

Id lower the exhaust by removing the hangers or unbolting the exhaust, first for easier access

http://www.harborfreight.com/no-3-pipe-cutter-5983.html Id cut the longer pipe as required and flare the part you cut so it slips onto the original pipe, adjust the tip location and angle as required, use a clamp and secure the tail pipe extension and test drive the car, if it sounds good then you weld it in place, keep in mind that minor changes in the length or exit angle WILL change the tone and sound in the car. and weld it back into place after first placing the exhaust back in place to correctly locate clearances and angles then tack welding the pipe to lock the location and angle, then lower the pipe for easy access to weld it permanently in place , don,t forget to spray paint the connecting weld with a zinc galvanize paint to retard rust.

here is a great welder for 90% or more of automotive welds on steel, its expensive but it works on either 110volt or 220 volt and has the required capacity to do most weld related repairs
