"The 14 Car" Performance therapy project

Ya, 5" sidepipes. Figure it'll have to be an IA II based engine with a bunch of goodies and a shot of nitrous. The aero mods are designed mostly for road track use but I want the versatility to allow me to use each mod for other things like drags and Land Speed Racing. The chute effect isn't bad on our cars because the gas tank slopes up nicely to the rear splash pan. Wait till I get to making a nice diffuser for the back, I think you'll like what I have in mind.

Wish I knew more about Road Racing.
I am surrounded by Cornfields and 2-lane black top roads.
Street Racing and Drag Racing I do know.
Once in a while A top end run for fun.

Nitrous is Awesome but unforgiving.
Be investigating Turbo charging.
Pontiac V8 Loves it.

Money is tight here.
Love to go IA2 & Kaufman heads.
Just can not do it.
Using production Pontiac 455 & my old tried but true 614 Ram Air IV Heads.

Arnie Beswick Used Areodynamics to his advantage on his 1970 Trans Am SNOWBIRD.
8-seconds in 1970. 455 With factory 614 RAIV heads.
Post pics tonight Birdman.

for the newer guys that might not remember the real transam firebirds

Those TA pics above demonstrate what I was talking about earlier concerning panel alignment and the bumper gap. The white car in the top pics looks like a correct restoration attempt right down to the original 15" steel factory wheels with 14" rallye centers. In the top pic you can see the hood sticks up and back too much at the windshield even with hardly any hood/bumper gap and you can see the body line on the bumper is higher than the body line on the fender. In the lower pic you can see the splash pan sticking out too far on the side because the fender has been pulled in to match the bumper.

The pics of the blue car were taken at just the right angle so the only noticeable thing is the hood sticking back at the windshield.

Its a Catch 22 Birdman.
Real power can be gained on our cars using a High rise Victor Jr or similar .
Or a Tunnel Ram.
To cover it up takes a High rise glass hood 4-5 inches.
Then has the Camaro look.
Sometimes I think about a sheetmetal fabbed intake for my TA.
High rise hoods eat up HP Mph on top end too.
5-7 mph at times no other changes made.
Flat hood best for Top LSR Runs.
Looking for an original Warrior intake.
1987 vintage.
Want to try it.
Should be good for 40-60 HP more.

They are
40-60 for an intake swap sounds like a lot. Never saw a Warrior intake.[/QUOTE
They are Rare today.
All Magnesium .
Doug Nash designed .
Doug was a Pontiac V8 guy like us.
Lots of meat to tall port to my 614 RA4 heads.
I let 4 pass by this year
I never spend all my stash of $.
I want the Warruir though.

a decent holley or demon 750 cfm carb,on the edelbrock intake below with some minor port matching can make a very noticeable improvement in the power of a high compression ratio pontiac engine if matched to the correct cam and headers

CHECK HOOD CLEARANCE IT IS TIGHT OR WON,T FIT IN SOME YEARS
obviously you won,t get results like below without the matched components but its truely amazing how much better the edelbrock heads and intake , matched to a good cam can produce

THE EDELBROCK PONTIAC VICTOR INTAKE IS THE BEST I'VE TESTED

Edelbrock Victor definitely won't folit on our cars Grumpy with the Factory shaker hoodscoop .
Will fit GTO.

Hurricane Tomahawk has a bad rap.
China made some claim.
Sits on the heads and block cock eyed crooked.
Other than that looks OK.

What do you think ?
Chance it ?
Costs $$$.

Doug Nash Warrior American Made.
Sits right on the heads.

PIA But the Functional Shaker Hoodscoop on 1970-1/2 TA -1972 IS Kool Priceless.

Dont need 700 Hp right now also.

Solid axle cars.
Do what IRS cant Street Drag Racing.

Rogers car is bad ass! I haven't talked to him in a while. Should E-mail him.

I was surprised he started hill climbing that car as offs on hill climbs are like offs in rally racing. Too many solid things too close to the course. But Rogers in a different disposable income bracket than I am. You should see some of his other cars.

I know a guy that had a nice 79 TA with a big Butler engine he hill climbed. Flipped, rolled, & totaled it on a hill climb. He's building another now. The more I've looked at his old car and videos the more I think the crash was aero related.

There's another clone car like Rogers thats for sale now called the Yank Tanque.. George raced it a while in vintage races but it's been sitting lately and he posted it on some of the Pontiac forums. There aren't many of us with road race set up 2nd gen birds so most of us know each other and the cars even though we're spread around the globe and never met in person.

Did You know that nearly all 1970-1/2 Trans Am owners have the Incorrect Shift knob with the Muncie 4-speed Birdman ?
What is correct is a Large Black plastic ball.
About like an 8-ball pool sized.
I have only seen 1 1970-1/2 Trans Am with the correct original Black Shift knob.

The Factory Snow Flake Aluminum RAIV Intake works really good on our cars with the Functional Mailbox Trap Door Shaker Hoodscoop.
Even with Super Radical Drag Race Cams.
A Single plane design would add Top end HP.

Another option is to Front Motor plate Birdman.
Cutout the entire Front Stubframe crossmember.
Slam that Pontiac V8 crankshaft 1-2 inches off the ground.
How Pro Stock does it.
My 70 TA is too rare to cut up.
Preserving and saving for my Sons.
