The Force Awakens...

Finding back TDC unequivocally with the piston stop. It was spot on. Fabbed up pointer.

I like your 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 firing order. Is that one of those Chevrolet Mystery motors you have there?

The plug wires were an extremely nice set with crimp jaws, number rings, and an overall great quality feel.
Did you bend the inner core back over the red insulation and then stick it into the connector and crimp it?

I'm sure you did, but just checking and others may not know you should.

Right-O

Since the vacuum is very high on this engine, I put in the 8 in/Hg springs. I replaced the 71 x 47 rod with 65 x 47.

I did not touch the secondaries

Timing is at 12 initial + 20 mechanical.

Performance has improved. Throttle response at low rpm is a bit flat. Power is good from 2000-3000 rpm then flattens out again.

I still get popping in the tail pipes but much less than before. I think I will lower the floats a tick.

Distributor springs are a step lighter than stock.

I am using full vacuum advance. Not ported. It seems to keep the engine cooler

When you have the gas pedal to the metal, er... glass reinforced plastic, it doesn’t feel like WOT.

But it’s tough to tell if this is normal because it’s been so long since I’ve driven a stock-ish 350

Btw, the car is a Performer 750 CFM. I added the electric choke (which works very well). I think these fellows are supposed to be slightly rich for stock-ish engines, no ?

Seems a bit rich at idle.
The engine may want it.
To Simply Tuning I would myself use no vacuum advance Dorian.
Tune without.
After dialed in go back and try using vacuum advance.
Make fine adjustments.
Be my tuning strategy.

It's a Real mild cam.
Not going to excite you like the Boosted TT did.
Muncie 4 speed makes it fun
No 200R4 To blow up.
You know how I feel about them or any overdrive trans besides A 4L80E.
John built a good Race 700R4 too.

You can usually feel a Transition from primary to secondary 4bbl operation on Edelbrock carbs.
Sometimes smooth to a mild kick felt in the drivers seat.
Be best to test at on the road in 3rd gear so high speeds not needed.
Tall highway gear in your C3 Vette.
Smaller 350 cubes too.
Feel and notice easier.

Id suggest making a single change at a time,
start with fuel/air ratio,
Id suggest richening the secondary jets about two steps,
and maybe a step richer on the mix control transition rods

Will do...

Secondaries, I m sure I have the jets to do that.

maybe a step richer on the mix control transition rods

That was the skinniest rod I had... next step is jetting up three as well.

Leave the timing alone for the moment?

And leave the floats alone as well... and vacuum advance, connected?
