The last project

Obviously there are many details yet to be decided however they should not interfere with the scheduled Auction.
Overall Charity Truck will finish as a #1 condition, full restoration not a "Trailer Queen," however it will have show quality paint and finish with show quality chrome and stainless Steel trim.
I'm targeting for high 700 Hp. and low 800 ft. lbs torque. The budget, well it's changed a little.

Its too experimental.
Your going to have a Hell of a time not having 40,000-50,000 cash in the truck at that power level.

Ah, but I learned something this week that changed everything, "Ask and you shall receive!"

this project seems to be getting even more potentially impressive and (potentially expensive) as it progresses, I hope it works out as planed.
and EVERY detail is carefully documented with dozens of clear pictures , diagrams, and schematics where applicable

I was going to hold off telling everybody what I did during this busy week. Without any formal plans I threw on a tie and gathered some of the documents I've been collecting and hit the road Wednesday. After eight hours, hot and tired I managed to get commitments from a new car dealer owned NAPA Store for a brand new LS3, the truck version (it was an LQ9 for the LS2). A reconditioned 6 speed automatic from Cottman transmissions. A rear axle/differential awaits formal corporate commitment within the next 3 weeks. Most of those I need to get final approval are either on vacation or away on summer community service or at car venues.
It paid off to a set a formal structure showing legitimacy for this endeavor.

Pictures will begin when I have something starting.
I ordered a pair of glasses that have a 1080 P camera eye in the center with a blue tooth connection. This will allow me to record to a camcorder hands free and no shaky hands. You'll see what I see and very well too!

Real Life Clark Kent and Then Superman !

I am glad your part Krazy Richard.
That's why I like You !
Same here Bri. I have to be Krazy anymore. So many strange and unbelievable events happened in my life, especially off the charts these past 4 years. To cope I wind up changing things, periods of intense buying, selling or giving things away. Ever meet anyone that has 4 radically different occupations? My wife is so used to my extremes she doesn't say anything about what I do. Sometimes that bothers me as a little resistance now and then would be a welcome change, shows she cares. I could (and did!) acquire, or do something on a large scale, something that for someone else could be life changing and she most times doesn't react or claims not to notice. Right Caroline? I know she reads my posts now and then.

I am not going to add much to what you already know or is best for you Richard.

I do think its best to complete the Charity Truck on a more practical HP Level .
500-575 HP.
I don't think you had seen my post on Digital Corvette a Few months back of all Factory LS & LSX Engines having piston ring sealing issues at extreme HP.
700 +.
The Blocks have a Marginal Deck Strength. To address the issue custom Plugs must be machined milled out.
Pressed into the Water holes in the deck. Resurface both deck banks.
Then Redrill water holes to smaller sizes.
OR PURCHASE A BRAND NEW DART RACING LSX Block for Big Bucks $$$$.

So that Leaves the Big Block Chevy & Pontiac 455 as Best Choice still for extreme HP Race and use production Block. Pontiac 455 you can use the stock crankshaft to 800 Hp.
Stock Rods to 500-550 HP.
Use Stock iron heads if Factory Round Port design.

That's why I insisted on the LQ9 engine not just the regular LS engine. The LQ9 is much stronger and to quote the engineers at GM - "The LQ9 was built to be indestructible to at least 200,000 miles"
With a cast iron block the LQ9 has been shown to easily handle over 800 Hp (this statement has come directly from GM headquarters and several independent specialists, one is Will Handzel, author of "how to build high performance LSX engines" and 2 other related books.

The engine I have coming will have some high hp insurances. The 6.0 will have a 3.622" crank, to maintain 10:1 compression, the block will have the bores honed with a surface plate on the engine - this will allow bore symmetry and prep the bores for the replacement Pistons (taking out the cast for a new set of forged Aluminum Pistons).
This isn't intended to be a racer, however it should Dyno out in the high 700s and I'm sticking to it!

Big Block Chevy & Pontiac 455 still Better and Stronger.
Oldsmobile V8 was designed to go 200,000 miles too.

I am looking at several trucks in Hemmings, I think one was a show truck that was stripped of all the bolt-ons. I had someone in TX look at it. They said it is a 1st class body and paint with a plain Jane ZZ4 motor. OMG! I hate flames on everything (something's your expect flames to be on it and that's fine, not my taste - not on square body p/u.)

Second one, no motor, no Trans. Clean, flat black. To me flat means there was bodywork.

3rd. Absolute survivor. 1968 was parked in 1970 has 15,200 original documented miles. It was bought from an estate. The parents bought their son the truck to stay in school, ended up being drafted and never returned. Parents kept everything until they died late last year.

I may get 2 trucks after seeing the auction results for pickups this summer. The second one could be an old school BBC 427/454

Lately I've been thinking of trying to get a '68 to '72 Suburban instead of a pickup.

Some wealthy rancher, a wealthy urban Soccer mom or perhaps a business or organization may be enthusiastic about a fully loaded, modernized and reliable Suburban done in good taste.
If I'm investing so much of my time and money into a charitable project, I need it to bring as much money to the cause as possible otherwise I failed and wasted a good opportunity and a lot of time I don't have to squander.

So what do you guys think? A great looking Suburban with all power this and that, a reliable and new LS3 high performance drive train with great street manors. Not forgetting some modern features including a class IV tow hitch?

Another one for the books.
While trying to close on a 1972 Chevrolet Suburban fully loaded the seller, A Mr. Know-It-All, was asking too many questions for a seller. I wasn't asking for any break in the price so I held off telling him this was for a Wounded Warriors Project but he had to know my plans. He all but flipped out telling me a long story about when he came back from Vietnam how we ridiculed him and anybody wearing a uniform and now "these" guys get all the glory, all the money and help they'll ever need. In short, he backed out as I was handing him the cash. It wasn't even a great deal, I knew I was paying all the money I just wanted to get the ball rolling.
That was a waste of 3 hours on a good day to be doing anything else.
