Thinking about pulling the trigger...

on a welder... ive been reading and researching and comparing alot of different machines, after talking to the welding instructor at school he told me about Hobart. hobart is owned by miller, alot of the parts are interchangeable with millers, they are made here in the USA just like millers, and from what i can tell, the only real difference between the machines is the term of the warranty and the ground cable... oh and the hobarts are half the price! so i'll probably pick one up this coming weekend and start finding excuses to use it.

oh also ive decided to go for the 140 model... http://www.hobartwelders.com/products/wirefeed/handler140/

for its portability and the fact that it can handle all of the projects i see attempting in the near future without overpowering the materials and blowing holes in stuff.

Looks like a good deal. I am in a similar position. I am fortunate that my neighbor is a welding instructor. I chatted with him the other day, same as you, and told him within next year or so, I'd be buying my own machine + need his help to select one.

Can't go wrong! Pave the way for me! ;)

It's too bad you're not near me, I just today decided to sell my welder, but maybe somebody else can make a deal. I have a brand new - never touched Eastwood 175 MIG welder system complete with everything from spool gun for Aluminum welding, brand new tank full of gas (plus another tank of gas for welding stainless steel) Auto helmet, huge welding blanket, gloves, torch light, several new large spools of wire and wire for stainless welding, assorted welding hand tools, a 50 ft. "0" gauge extension cord and every conceivable tool and accessory imaginable for turn-key welding and get this - a brand new in the box plasma welder that converts between 115 and 220. And welding cart all for $1000. ( or trade for help) I dare anybody to beat that price unless it's stolen! I have original receipts for everything including over $300 in gas and new (current safety certified) owned not leased tanks from Air Gas Supply.

I bought all this stuff and soon after I bought out a business that had a huge amount of various types of welding and equipment that I in turn learned on. To keep the new stuff would be redundant and I don't need more stuff at home. I'm becoming the opposite of a hoarder these days and getting rid of anything not being used. I hate dealing with people who want to buy a $20 bill for $5 so I just price things really low in the first place. like it or not that's My price unless someone can provide better logic.

Ideally, I really like to find someone to help me finish my 71 vette interior and trade for various equipment and maybe some cash.

I have a lot of different projects going on now Rich.
Someday.
