Thinking Of Replacing The Struts

They haven’t been replaced and the car has over a 195,000 miles. The dust covers are torn. Toyota makes the top mounting bolts a pita to take off. You have to remove the cowl, wiper assembly and another cover just to get to one of the 3 bolts for the struts. Hmmm, thinking maybe I can drill a large enough hole through the cowl and cover over top of the bolts to get a socket with extension? I’ll have to get the O’l tape measure out.

Question: do I have to realign the front end after installing new struts?

Is there any brand(s) of struts to avoid because I’m looking primarily at saving some money. There must be at least 6 brands I found while looking around.

There’s over 10 brands of fully assembled Struts. I’m not sure which to get. I just want to get a few more years use, after that if it’s still running it’s a bonus.

Gas or oil filled?
KYB seems to be near the top
Rock Auto has cheap shocks starting at $47 each, calling them economy struts. The other category is OEM Ride Quality starting at $83 each.

I just want 2 to 4 years, good ride and control without spending alot. Any suggestions?

Grumpy likes Rock Auto.
I use them for hard time find Oil seals, odds and ends they have quite a bit Vintage parts.

I have been using Ebay for Chassis and Suspension parts.
Last set of Struts all around in the Wifes old 1999 Honda CRV I bought Fully loaded assembled with coil springs was from a Florida Seller dealer.
Cost was $225.00 with shipping for 4 front and rear struts assembled complete.
Was 4 years ago. So far so good.

Detroit Axle Company in Ebay is A-ok I bought new front suspension and steering for Her Honda back in May 2020.
No complaints at all from Detroit axle.

Best deals seem to be on Ebay.
What you find Google Searching Independent dealers.
Many in Los Angelous California, Arizona, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Detroit Michigan.
Some in Illinois.

I’m not feeling too well today, falling behind on things. Have to read this a bit later
