I was recently asked if these headers might be a good modification to a guys car.

http://www.amazon.com/Shorty-Design...68095&sr=8-5&keywords=big+block+chevy+headers
Designed for automatic trans only
Made of high quality steel with 2-pieces 4-1 direct bolt-on design
  • TIG welded CNC machine flange
  • Metal gasket included / 2 x Main collector piping diameter: 2.58" / Inlet: 1.65" (8 square ports) / Outlet: 2.85"
  • Increase high flow air, instantly gain 10 to 15 Hp. / Tq
  • Application: Please check part finder on top of the page (Professional Installer is Highly Recommended) (No Instruction Included)

now anyone thinking of purchasing shorty headers to replace the stock exhaust manifolds is rather obviously doing that to either save some front end weight or at least in theory reduce some flow restriction and hopefully gain some power as a result.
these pictures were linked to the advertisement, that clearly show why a clutch Z-bar used with a manual transmission won,t have clearance, in the car the guy posting tried them on.

most of the older more experienced guys know what a manual clutch and Z-bar is and how it works, if you don,t read thru these threads

now lets assume this guy wants to use the headers but has a manual transmission, he has two rather obvious choices
(OTHER than getting different headers that fit his particular application of course)
he can modify the headers
(very difficult, time intensive ,and likely to cost more in parts and labor than getting the correct headers to begin with)
or he can use a HYDRAULIC clutch linkage
(frequently quite expensive but a viable option if you can,t get better headers)
