Pontiac did not do that well with thier own V8, 303 ci .
Most 1968 and 1969 Firebirds entered into the orginal SCCA Trans Am series had a Chevy 302 V8 under the hood.

Pontiac Won the very last Trans Am SCCA Race in 1972.
It was with a 1972 Trans Am with a RAIV 614 headed 303 ci V8.
The Ram Air 5 V tunnel port heads were scrapped so to speak used on earlier 303 ci V8.
Pontiac hired a Pro Cylinder porter Warren Brownfield to Help Win Races.
A 1st ever for Pontiac.
Warren chose the 1970 RAIV 614 casting heads. He Full Race Ported them.
Pontiac finally Won a SCCA Race !
All modern SBC Heads Tech comes from Warren Brownfield and Pontiac RAIV .

To my knowledge Pontiac never Entered Can Am Road Racing series.

One of the Best Road Race Drivers or Very Best at the time Jerry Titus was killed in his 1970 Pontiac Trans Am during a Practice Race.
It was Bad Press for an all New Pontiac Trans Am 2nd generation bodied Pony Car.
Pretty sure Morale down too at Pontiac 1970 year.
