Throttle Linkage

I have an Edelbrock 1406 carburetor (might need to be rebuilt), it came with the LM1 350 I bought for my 64 El Camino. The el camino originally came with a throttle rod lever that attaches to the carburetor from the gas pedal, it's not in good shape. I also have a bracket for a throttle cable that I might be able to modify to use for the throttle valve (detent cable) that comes from the 200-4R transmission. I'm trying to keep my costs low so I'm thinking of modifying this bracket for the detent cable instead of buying one from bowtie overdrives

Should I buy a new throttle rod lever or convert it to a throttle cable? Is there any advantage to having a cable vs a rod?

in most cases but not all,
your carb throttle opens as pressure is applied by the throttle pedal and (pull/tension) to the connected linkage,
a throttle linkage is closed due to throttle spring tension ,
yes theres hundreds of different configurations,
brackets and springs and ways to accomplish this.
ITS been my experience that a properly set up,
throttle linkage using cables,on a single carb application,
will be generally less likely to bind or cause the geometry related issues
if you use connecting rods,
HEIM JOINTS HELP PREVENT BINDING ISSUES
you obviously can,t PUSH a cable so in compound linkage arrangements you use Heim joints and leverage,
and threaded rods with Heim joints have the advantage of easy to adjust length
