Unforgiven Project

Make a Blueprint scetch of what You have Unforgiven.

Tolerance line bore I want on my own is + /- .0000 " Tight size of Cleavite master catalog for line bore spec.

Only got my bud Steve local I trust.
Rest will Fick it up do not care.

I believe you previously said that the block's main cap register was machined too far. Is it a nice, clean cut?
Reason being that the cap is the removable piece and if any welding is to be done, I personally would do it to the cap.
If somehow the cap got messed up, then a new cap fixes the problem. The same can't be said for the block.

Formulate a plan.
May need to machine away registers yes.

This was the only answer I was asking for.
Thank you Brian.

I was not asking anyone on how to fix my issue.. as there are many ways to go about it.
I was asking if if was a good idea to just clear both registers and locate caps with dowels only.

Yes Brian I am formulating a plan...

Mike... Yes, your idea of welding the cap is exactly what I had planned to do, if I was to weld anything.
I found that these caps were made in house and the machinist had altered the registers, and cut them
off center.

I am not taking any chances and will fix this mess myself.
I drew a sketch to show what I am dealing with below.

I may not touch the block at all... I may just weld one end of the cap and alter the other side so it fits the block.

I don't like the idea of welding one register at all.
Heat then shrinkage and distortion likely.
Ruin all.
I think machine to clear.
Locate where it needs to be.
Torque caps.
Drill straight though caps into block and dowel pin.
Align Bore.
Align hone.

I agree with you.. Thats why If I welded at all it was going to be on the steel caps.
But.. The heat was still my concern.. Thats why I asked if just eliminating the registers all together
and just dowel it was a good fix. It sure would be the easiest thats for sure. I cannot see where using
dowels for locating would not work..

Anyone realize what else I need to do from this pic116.JPG

The caps are being cleaned but, This is a 1 piece seal block.
I am going to need an adapter for the rear main seal, and I am going to need to purchase a new rear main
because I am running a wet sump.:( More money!

Yeah.
Need a 1-piece rear main seal crank now.
No way around that I know of.
Balance is different.
It's Neutral balance up front on Harmonic balancer.
Rear at Flywheel its Assemetric balance like a Pontiac V8.
1-piece rear main came out in 1986 Chevy Corvette.
Need the seal adapter. It's aluminum.
Think I have a spare at home.
Have to find search in my Chevy parts.

On another note: I was giving my wife a hard time last night after dinner. I kept switching the channel to the STREET OUTLAWS reruns on her and keopt reminding her that the New show was on at 9:00. At 8:15 I was giving her a count down, 45 minutes! Well she had a plan.... she switch the channel to watch HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS.
She is FULLY aware that I will fall asleep watching that show.
Last thing I remember was 8:45. and it was lights out!
Now I think that was just mean of her! :D
She was laughing at me this morning!!!

As Rodney Dangerfield once said....NO RESPECT

don,t you have the ability to RECORD shows that you might choose to watch at a later time?

Yes I can watch it tonight.. But it was just the principle!
It was a planned attack on me so she could watch her HALLMARK show!!! :D

I will look again for a good deal on A Dart Little M block.
Makes logical sense because Rotating assembly is bought for 2-piece rear main.

Lots of guys want to go Racing.
GM Race block good for Vette Guys.
Know them.
A plan.

Some CNC Tooling Errors.
Computer screwed up.

Use EBay ask the seller a question.
Offer him $800-1200 cash and you drive and pickup. See what happens.
