Unforgiven Project

I still have alot of time before the carb purchase, but I have been kicking this idea around for a bit...

https://www.holley.com/products/fue...sniper_efi/sniper_4bbl_tbi_kits/parts/550-512

It will cost me about $500 more than the e85 carb that I was going to have built, but some guys have been trying to persuade me into EFI.
Still on the fence about it, cause I know that there will be more additional pieces to add to this type of fuel system.

Your going to need 2 of them to get max 'VE cylinder fill rate with the Supercharger.
Be Ok if just a street truck.
But Racing WOT.
Not meant for E85 fuel also but a few tuning Pros have done it.

A single Holley 4500 Dominator E85 purpose built Carb best single. 1050 cfm -1200 cfm.

2 nd single a Bo Laws BLP 4150 Double Pumper with Annular Boosters Pro Flow series 1085 cfm.

The Alcohol will displace alot of air.
Knock True Cfm the engine sees ingested by near 200 cfm less.

Why Alcohol racers use huge carbs 930 -1400 cfm capacity.
Stack injection mechanical layout about 4000 cfm. Each stack feeds 1 cylinder. True Individual runner layout.

Holley EFI is the Very Best for Gasoline Drag or any True WOT Throttle body EFI racing bar none.

Yea I have been reading a few threads where other guys add 35% more fuel in the program for E85.
The 1250 system that I linked to ....says it will support up to 1250 hp. And 700hp N/A
EFI is all new to me... I see that this unit uses an 800cfm main body.
The Pro Systems carb has an 850 body. Patrick says that the way the new carbs today shear the fuel, I don't need the larger cfm carb like we did
in the old days.

Like I said... I'm just toying with this idea at the moment, and trying to get a better understanding of how the new stuff works.

There are strong merits to using EFI.
Your using actually 3 power adders.
E85,
8-71 Super Charger.
Nitrous oxide.

Still have to manual read spark plugs for nitrous hero shots.
Done right going to see +500-600 Hp more no sweat on top of Engine normal aspirated horsepower.

Next Gen Holley Sniper EFI likely better.

Highly recommend Bo Laws BLP in Florida.
Right where Grumpy is at.
Bar none the best carbs made to me.
2nd choice racing budget friendly is AED .
They buy thier parts from Bo Laws.

I have a Bo Laws 1085 cfm.
Had it made in 2010 before I knew Grumpy. Going to use on the TA engine.

Get a link for you next.

I REALLY like that SV1 carb! But the smallest it comes is 1150cfm.
It reminds me of a modern day Predator carb!
Some of BBC and Pocho V8 guys like the SV-1 mono 1-bbl.
Seems that a Pro ported intake like done by Chad Spier in Kansas is key.
Kinda tough when working with a budget and can not send off $10k to them to modify build for you.

Surf around today.
Lots of options BLP.
Want no smaller than 1050 cfm with your race truck my advice.

That was EXACTLY my thoughts also, but Patrick at Prosystems says thats old school thinking. Carbs are different today!
I think I may have even seen a thread here on Grumpy's on how to determine what size carb would be needed.
The formula that I used stated that I needed around 1080 cfm's if I remember correctly.
Patrick has an explaination on this subject on his website in the "under the scoop/blog" section.
Most all the guys I know that are using his carbs state that they would purchase another one from him if needed. They are very happy with them.

PLUS.... he is here in Michigan.

I was reading somewhere here that Grumpy made a piston ring installer
by using a piece of PVC coupler and spinning it on a lathe. I think I may try to make one as to save a few dollars.

Rick did that to make a ring squaring tool. If your piston does not have a dome, you can use that.
But every time you handle it, you risk dropping it. Make the PVC tool and drop that instead.

I thought that was a great idea for making that ring squaring tool!
I will be making one of these M&M RACING tools hopefully this weekend!
I would like to make a tapered piston and ring installer also, I have one of the old ones that require an allen wrench and are a P.I.T.A to use.
Picking up some plastic tubing this weekend to install on the rod threads also.

I have been slowly gather up some of the mundane items that are useful for the engine build.
My wife gave me a puzzled look when I was looking at toilet brushes in the store last week. I told her it was for washing all the sh%t off the
new block when I get it back. She smiled and told me that when i'm done with the motor I can bring the brush in the house and help clean some other things also.o_O

New Toilet brush will work !

That's a nice looking carb Brian. I also like that finish on that intake.
I have a hard time keeping my engine clean in my sport. I have a belly pan and inner fender enclosures to keep the mud out, but I still
get some dirty water spray that makes it,s way onto the motor.
I am trying something new this time to try and isolate the motor completly from the spray . It involves using a 4 mill vinyl shower pan material
that is normally used underneath a ceramic floor in a shower stall.
I have used it for the belly pan underneath the motor and have had great results.
Sealing around the headers is the hard part. Have been thowing around the idea of using something similar to a shop push broom head, but only
having brass bristles, and wrap it around the collector. Note that my headers go over the frame and through a hole in the inner fenderwell.

NICE!!!
SBC or not... that setup looks great no matter what engine it's on!
Mine will look similar only smaller.
Wish I had a bigger blower like that!

the internal air passages look to be very restrictive in the picture, far smaller than the area of the carb base plate opening
