Unforgiven Project

On a happier note.... I managed to get the cage in an new seats installed! Now that the seats are in I can install the side bars and a grab bar inthe center for
my co-pilot. I am waiting until I get the motor back in before I install the front supports that extend into the engine bay.

Thanks Rick. I did not see where it would hurt, but I like to hear other view points.
How would opening the edge out to the gasket increase flow when the throat is so much smaller? Don't do it. Greater potential for a water leak there.

I'm one of those guys that refuses to throw anything away if there is still life left in it.
Even I would not put any money into your current block.
BTW, you have head studs (blower - I get it) but your bottom end is stock and using stock hardware???
Pay attention to what the teardown is telling you. And you want to push it more??? Guaranteed failure in a short time. Then you get to spend the money you should have in the first place. Member Philly says it best in his signature - There's never enough money to build it right, but there's always enough to build it twice! phil

.
So that means you would never gasket match an intake port from the manifold to the head .... right???
.
Port matching the intakes I have done. Aside from removing casting flash in the water ports, what is there to be gained?

Port matching is worth only 1-2 cfm gain.
It has been proven by the Pontiac guys with Superflow Flow benches.
You can not get any real gains huge 40-100 cfm more per port unless your a true pro & have a Superflow flow bench at home.

Wow, the seats look great, what happened to the steering wheel column?

It is just dirty. I washed the inside of the cab and taped off the windows and covered the dash pad , instrument panel and steering wheel with plastic before
I resprayed the inside of the cab. After It dried and I removed the plastic, and the dirty column really POPPED! :p;)

The edge that has the red arrow pointing to it is actually restricting the throat a small amount. I was not talking about opening it up to the gasket edge... I was just going to open it enough so that it was the same size as the throat. I am only talking about removing about maybe 1/8"

That is why I posted all these pics... I am seeing things that were not anticipated before I began. And Grumpy has pointed out what he suspects that pinned area I found.... is from the block twisting and NOT freezing. Which is what I thought caused it. That was the first time I have seen anything like that.

Point is... I am learning from you men.

Let it be known from here forward....After the discoveries so far... I DO NOT INTEND TO USE THIS BLOCK WITH THE NEW REBUILD...... But it is still of value to me
to learn how it wore and what caused things to fail.

The power levels I am seeking are new to me.... It is a huge learning curve in which I fully embrace.

This block is enticing because of the time that was put into prior.. and because I have it.

In other words...
it's like walking by the bathroom doorway just as the wife is stepping out of the shower and you catch a glimpse...
As much as you want to go for it.... You fully know the answer is still going to be... NO!

Maybe worth 10 cfm gain.
Do it. Makes you happy. Does not hurt anything.
All the flow is is the chamber.
Valvejob.
Short turn radius.
Raising ports and welding up the Floor of the port.

Brian.... We are talking about opening the wall on the water jacket hole. lol

Welcome to the 10k to 200k Benji engine club !

THANK YOU!!
It will be $10k for sure if I had to buy a new blower.
Funny thing is... the blower is the ONLY thing that will now be carried over to the new build.

Thanks for the engine links Brian. I also seen Summit has a block for $1750
I am holding out for the moment on Tyler Crockett Racing for a deal on a new Dart block.
Just waiting to hear back from him. He is only 10 miles from me so I can save on shipping..LOL

Summit has free shipping on orders over $99. I just put one in the cart and checked to make
sure and it's free. You might save on taxes, depending on your state.

Jegs wants $119 freight:(
I think taxes are inevitable on line now days no matter what state were in.

You guys need to take another closer look at the pics that show the block being pinned. We have a $20 bet here at work that those are not pins, but rather casting marks from the foundry. If you look close enough you will see that the texture is identical to the texture of the valley.

I WILL NOT BE USING THIS BLOCK ... we are just curious that there are no weld marks and that the pins overlap each other. Another clue is that the area is too close to the valley floor and lifter bosses to get a tool to fit in the area and hold the precision needed to overlap each pin.
I am taking some of our crack detection spray home this week end just to satisfy our curiosity.

I may get a free lunch out of this one... :)
