Vacuum gauge help

My compression test were:
1 - 150 2 - 120.... guess I will squirt some oil in this one tomorrow and see if it changes.
3 - 145 4 - 150
5 - 150 6 - 150
7 - 150 8 - 145

It was driving me nuts so I just went and tested once again.
This time I got just above 150 in all cylinders. I'm wondering if I just didn't get the compression gauge sealed in #2 very well.
Kind of relieved for the moment.

Happened to me last years. had one cylinder read lower then the other. i test again 30 minute later and tada, compression is fine.

keep in mind your compression rings,on most engines, both constantly rotate in the pistons ring grooves and do so at different rotation rates so the ring seal is constantly changing slightly as the engine runs in most engines.
yes there are piston designs that prevent the second compression ring from rotating, yes rings can be slightly bent during improper installation or installed incorrectly or with the wrong end gap.
at times having an inspection tools handy when you can't get a good look at a problem any other way
if your going to buy a used short block or a bare block from an un-known private source or most salvage yards, obviously you'll need to do BOTH a close inspection, WITH some measuring tools
AND get some idea of the blocks physical condition
this is also a good inspection tool

Thanks for posting all of the links in this thread. I've spent hours upon hours reading them all and sub links. I'm absorbing a lot but know I will need to read through them again.

well thats what I started the site for!
to have the more experienced members help as many people learn,
the skills it took most of us decades to acquire,
without needing to spend all that wasted time and AVOID the long expensive process,
of dealing with all the crappy machine shops ,
wasting money on parts and modifications that don,t work,
and waste all that time & money in the process.
I was lucky at times that I had several skilled mentors,
but I also remember making hundreds of stupid mistakes ,
mistakes made simply because I didn,t know better at that time!
and wasting a great deal of my limited cash on junk parts, simply learning what was important and what was trash.
