velocity or bullet mass and caliber, how much is required

I also have a Henry 45 Colt that I have thought about taking out but its open sights with this one what would you think about this

the hornady 350 grains over 46 grains of RL7 is a very safe load,
n that 45/70, much more effective than anything the 45 colt could produce,
that loads under max but a bit faster than 1600 fps,
Im sure it will be very effective as its a load I see listed several places including the hornady manual,
as one of the more popular loads used.

I will load up a few of them and give them a go I will keep an eye out for the IMR 3031 you suggested I have a powder guy that is still getting some powders I went there a couple weeks ago and picked up some RL 10, 16, & 17 , some leverloution and some Win748 I have to look up the Leverloution for the 45/70 but info on it is scarce but its supposed to give lever guns a bump in performance but how it does for only lever guns I don't know LOL

The 45 Colt is just a wild hair idea we've talked about going antique gun and muzzleloader and things like that to make it a little more difficult to shoot deer because of the decline in population and also talking about coyote killing but we've been seeing deer this summer a couple weeks ago I went down the farm early in the morning and saw a deer that was the biggest rack that I have seen anywhere ever he crossed the driveway in front of me but I tried to glass where he went to down the creekbottom but never saw him again but the good news is that he came from the area of my tree and the last time I saw a big deer like that I had him on my trail camera and when I saw him in the woods I knew exactly what deer it was but never got a good shot because he was moving away from me so I ended up tracking his blood trail for 3 hours before I finally got him and now he's on my wall looking at me as I type this
