"grumpy I have a 305 TPI engine that just spun a bearing so Im forced to rebuild or replace it!
I want to install it back in my 1986 camaro, with a 700r4 transmission and I know from experience the engines never going to see 5500rpm, so Id like some suggested parts, to use in a build

mid rpm torque that smoothly moves the car at lower rpms, is the result of three major factors
displacement, cylinder pressure and volumetric efficiency, a TPI intake is designed to maximize efficiency in the 2500rpm-4000rpm power band (depends on cam timing heads,,displacement etc.)

the suggestion Id makes is not to rebuild the 305, and instead,to buy a 350-406 short block, build it with a 9.5:1 compression ratio, and match it to a set of TRICK FLOW 175CC heads, or AIR FLOW RESEARCH 180CC heads, so you can use that TPI intake with a cam similar to this, crane I linked to below, with 1.6:1 ratio rockers on that TPI will produce decent mid range torque, add long tube headers and a low restriction exhaust.the difference in power over that stock 305 will be very noticeable.
you might want to think of it this way, if a sbc engine makes 1.2 foot lbs of torque per cubic inch of displacement a 307 would produce about 368 ft lbs of torque, but a 383 would produce 460 ft lbs
