HEY GRUMPYVETTE, I want to cruise at about 2400rpm at 70 mph with my 700R4 and still have great accelleration with my 400hp PLUS corvette stroker, and my 3000rpm stall converter?

youll need about a 3.54:1 rear gear and the tallest tire that fits the wheel well to fall in that rpm band at about 70 mph and you might want to add a switch to lock the converter if its that type of 700r4 converter.

"Most if not all factory installations use a pressure switch in the 4th (overdrive) gear port in the valve body. The scheme I use puts +12v at the connector on the side of the trans and from there to the solenoid. I use a 2 wire lockup solenoid valve and connect the ground wire to the pressure switch which has 1 terminal and a grounded case.
There are other lockup solenoid valves that are one wire with the case grounded. For that type you'd have to use a two terminal pressure switch with both terminals isolated from ground.
I don't know if the pressure switches are made by Hobbs or not, they can be purchased at a GM dealer and I'm sure most transmission shops have them on hand.
I also use a brake switch and a vacuum switch in the power feed to the transmission. This unlocks the converter when you hit the brakes and when you lug the engine. I don't see how a mechanical lockup valve can provide anything that resembles either one of these functions. If you are stopping the car and your foot is off the gas, the valve body does not downshift out of 4th gear until the engine rpm is about 400 rpm on mine, which is low enough that the engine will jerk and chug even if it doesn't stall. So having the brake switch is a good thing.
Here are the parts I use:
2 wire solenoid
GM/AC Delco 8639956
single terminal NO pressure switch
GM/AC Delco 8642473
vacuum switch 14014519
You can use the brake switch off any car that could have been ordered with a lockup converter, get it at the dealer or most any auto supply. These parts cost less than half what the aftermarket transmission place charge. "
