here is a tip you best not forget,
a great many small electronic devices , like cell phones and computers and phones can be effected by or in some cases EVEN DESTROYED BY exposure to ARC, MIG or TIG welding in close proximity too, or if connected too the same electrical circuit.

Be careful where you weld
IVE HEARD OF SEVERAL CASES WHERE A SHOP had A car in a shop getting some WELDING DONE, THAT RESULTED IN PROBLEMS OR DAMAGE.
I was talking to the service mgr. AT ONE WELDING SHOP, He showed me a late model Jeep wagon of some kind on which the owner had been welding on the trailer hitch, HE HAD PURCHASED...and fried $2800 worth of electronics, IN THE CAR EVEN THOUGH HE ONLY WELDED THE TRAILER HITCH

FORGET?
put a cell phone in your pocket, especially if left on, while your using an electronic welder and the magnetic fields and the arc will damage or destroy it eventually and its frequently damaged, almost immediately, it may or may not happen every time, or to every phone, I phone or notepad computer, instantly but it almost always eventually damages those electronics so remember to put the cell phone, lap top etc. away for safe keeping in a place at least 50 feet from any welding , preferably shielded as in your car trunk parked outside of the 50 ft range and out of the shop where your welding.
remember to disconnect the cars battery and place the welder ground clap as close as practical to the area being welded as it significantly reduces the potential for electronics damage,
yes its hard to remember and yeah, most of us can occasionally forget and not realize the potential damage being done.
BUT ARC < MIG< OR TIG WELDING FREQUENTLY IS DAMAGING THOSE ELECTRONICS
THAT means PUT it in a safe place, not in the glove compartment of the car your welding on or forgetting the lap top you use to tune the car with or research repair info on, in the car your welding on. or even in a different car if its anyplace local to welding being done
.
Ive had friends that had cell phones fail instantly, others have had consistent issues with lap top damage when they weld in the shop with the lap top computer or phone on a desk 15-20 feet away even if its turned off,I have one guy I know that's gone thru 5 cell phones in one year and they no longer will honor the warranty because he forgets and carries the cell phone while welding at times
thats one great reason , on an endless list of reasons to own,
and know how to use a a decent quality MIG or TIG welder,
I don,t see how anyone in this hobby can function,
without a decent welder , drill press and a decent tool chest

we have a whole welding section
