well how many guys are working on truck based hot rods?

Ran into a problem. The front frame clip in my truck is from a '70 Chevelle that had a big block in it. It's got a big block in it now. When I ordered the Hooker Super Comps for a '70 BBC Chevelle, I figured they would fit, but they don't.

Started on the right side first, the old header is shown below next to the new header.
The old headers were in the truck for 17 years, but I don't remember what brand they are or where I got them. They fit. The shiney new ones hit the lower A-arm rear mount. The tube from cylinder #4. And it looks like the tube from cylinder #2 would hit the starter if I could get it all the way in.

Can anybody ID the old header? I seem to think it might be a Hedman.

Maybe I should have started a separate thread, this is getting kinda long....

I could have welded up a set of my own design, but it would take awhile to get it right, and I'm kinda running out of time here on all my projects...

Spent some time checking out headers, yakking with techs, went with this direction....

Decided on these Hedman 1-3/4" by 3" full length, they have 14 ga. tubes and a 3/8" flange. Sending the Hookers back.

Its serious drag race Grumpy.
The parachute is functional .
You can see the release handle inside the cockpit.

Likely more than $40k in.

I've got a long way to go before my truck looks even half as good as any of these. But it's coming along slowly. Dropped my 383 in it and I already need more power. Started the hunt for a decent block (bbc) to start building.
I could put some nice heads on the 383 as it has some stock 993's. But the way I see it, I would rather put that money towards a bb.

Amazing trucks posted here, definitely inspirational for myself.

I agree that I like the basic look of the larger frame and wheels on that truck based hot rod ,but Id love to see a version with twin ,in line big block chevy engines in place of that current engine

The Big Block Chevy was once King.
LS took over Grumpy.
The OEM LS blocks and LSX have thier limits.
Starts getting real expensive then.
Just have to sit back and watch like me too.
Chevy BBC & Pontiac 455 I think are Best.

Hey guys... thought I would update on my S-10.

I've made some changes since I last posted. I was able to get the truck to run consistently in the mid to high 9.90's last season.

So last winter I decided to step up the weight loss... and improve the chassis.

I had a friend help me remove all the front suspension and what was left of the factory frame (from the back-half forward). We installed a CM round tube chassis to match the rear back-half work. Went with a Strange strut front suspension, mid plate, motor plate, etc. Also made a round tube core support to tie in the factory gutted front fenders, grille and a fiberglass front bumper. The front cap comes off after popping 4 Dzus pins similar to a fiberglass unit. Also installed an aluminum multi-piece bed-cover and a steel tail-gate panel to make it look like a truck again.

Current race weight is now at 2331 with me inside ready to race... or 2136 pounds plus driver. It still has factory doors with roll up glass, door panels, factory windshield, steel front fenders (gutted). I'm pretty happy with the weight at this time.

Here is a pass from last week at Memphis...

It ran a 9.494 @ only 135.44

As you can see from the video it launched hard. Yes... I know I need to do some chassis changes to fix the bouncing. Every bounce caused the slicks to spin. lol

That's going to have to wait. I hurt the engine after that pass. Oil pressure dropped about 7 seconds into the pass to 26 psi and engine RPM stopped pulling. It sounds like I spun a bearing?

I never did pull the engine and freshen things up, guess all those years of running it this hard finally took its toll... procrastination is a mother. lol

knowing the work required, too modify a car/truck to get it down to that weight and get the suspension and tires etc.
set up, and having personally owned and run a car that ran 10.25 at 135 mph ,that
trucks low weight, and mid 9 E.T is VERY impressive

This truck, what is it. This my life-changing "when I grow up I want one of those" moments.

Hey guys. It's been a long time since I've been on the site.

I spent last year running a 355 shortblock with all my other parts on it running 9.90's with the chassis working well. Last winter I finally broke down and got the paint and bodywork taken care of so it looks nice.

This spring I changed out the 4.56 gears for a set of 3.89 gears cause I planned on adding more power and running much quicker times... didn't want to run too high of rpm. Once I went to the 3.89 gears my times dropped to consistent 10.20's.

This fall I bought a new/used shortblock from a friend for a good deal. A Dart block, forged crank, H beam rods and JE pro domed pistons. I put all the parts from my 383/355 into the "new" 434. Not enough cylinder head or cam, but it's working so far. The 434 has 14.1:1 compression. I didn't want to spend the big money for high dollar race gas, so I found a great deal on a Ron's flying toilet alcohol injection setup with the primer plus system... less than half price.

I reset the 4 link for the added power. First time at the track I ran a 9.178 @ 143.66 mph with a 1.292 60'. The data logger showed it spinning for the first .961 seconds of the pass... then it took off. I had the rear shocks set in the middle of both compression and extension and had planned on doing some suspension tuning. Didn't work out. The track manager came up and checked everything over. I was good to go, except I forgot my fire pants. He said I couldn't run in the 9's or I'd get booted for the day.

Next pass I went up, went full throttle to the 1/8 mile marker... lifted and coasted through the 1/4. It ran a 9.91 at 98.31 mph with a 1.283 60'. Oh well... they booted me. My 1/8 mile numbers showed a 5.780 @ 120.57 mph. If I could have done some shock tuning I feel like I might have actually hit a 8.99?

There's always next season.

Here's a video showing the pass I lifted at half track and coasted.

Here is a video of it idling after I got back from the track.

That is a Nasty little S10.
You have a Front Fuel Cell.
Access door in the Hood.
Pretty Kool.

Thanks!

Front fuel cell is for the alcohol. I have to fill it after every pass and didn't want to deal with taking the hood on and off every pass. It almost killed me to have to cut a hole in the hood after it was painted. lol
I still have a cell in the rear for the regular gas used with the primer plus.
