For an LQ4 (an iron block version of an LS) I guess it's too much to ask for an LQ9 just yet. Has anybody ever sold one, know what the junkyard charges or seen one advertised in CL?
I'm trying to weigh whether I should buy an inexpensive pickup and pull the motor or just buy the motor straight out.

About $1000-1500 from the Junkyards.
Any LS Pickup engines.
SBC 350 Too.

There are 454 BBC Near me for $500 complete.

Makes zero sense to me not to go Big Block.

If I were keeping the truck it certainly would be the 427/454 BBC. But the theme here is reliability, low maintenance and good fuel economy. If I have to foot the entire bill and a good donor truck turns out to be too costly then things could change. Remember, I've committed to a 100% donation (I'm not deducting expenses) excluding tax and tags (that's paid by the buyer) and therefore there is no buyer or seller premium charged by BJ.

Speaking of which, Barrett/Jackson referred me to a charity publicist since I'm not a celebrity donor and have no history as a professional shop. Yeah, a load of rules because I'm not a notable entity.

So if the donation is other than money and it has yet to exist, You're not a licensed shop or car dealer, a celebrity or known to them as a sizeable car collector and you request a 100% donation to YOUR charity(s) - not theirs, and without any premium charged, they need a performance bond to schedule you for an opening and pictures of the actual car submitted no later than 30 days prior to the date of the auction. A copy of a title or proof of free and clear ownership. ALSO - A copy of some form from your residence county clerk of courts stating as of this (date) I don't have any action against me for child or spousal support or this vehicle is not listed as property in an open bifurcated divorce. Other "little" stuff (their words, not mine) like judgments, mechanical liens and Sheriff's Sales can just be sworn to . . . . .what no credit check? It's true, no BS here. It's like the guy in the commercial that wants to buy a razor at the drugstore.

Too much if a PIA For me Richard.

I would flip used cars . Turn a profit.
Simple mechanical repairs.
Done right have $75-200K in 1year time.
Real Barret Jackson Play $.

A Good Mechanic required .
Mechanics not always Business Savy.

I'm not doing it for the money. I no longer can do any of the physically intense volunteer services I used to do which was substantial. I need to stay off the recliner this winter and push for a challenge. My wife no longer wants to volunteer long hours and be away from home so this write-off takes that off her conscious.

I'm on the hunt for a late (least on the list) LS1, one level up - an LQ4, or (best to hope for, LS2 or the truck version LQ9. The LQ9 would be the most appropriate choice.

Itching to get started, I have the truck - I think. I knew from the start that wouldn't be the hard part when compared with the cost containment of the drive train.

Anybody here besides Brian? LOL!
