Where is the rear portion af this gasket?

Grumpy, I copied these pics from another thread. Is this one of your engines?
Did the gasket come this way, or did you do this on purpose? The reason I ask
is that every engine I used these 1 piece gaskets on leak at the rear. I never had
a leak with the old 4 piece design. I liked Victor tuff cork - cork on both sides of
stainless steel rails and rubber end pieces.
 
no its not one of the engines Ive built.
and yes it appears the gaskets been modified with the rear seal area removed, for un-known reasons..
my guess is that they used gasket cement on the upper surface rear seal area,
and it ripped off when the oil pan was removed after a test fit.

it certainly did not get installed in that condition , as it came out of the package

remember theres two different gasket designs on the SBC the guy may have tried to install the wrong one

It looks like there are tear marks on the ends of the side portion of the gasket to me.
