Wheres The 500-600 Hp, The Seller Bragged About In This Big Block Chevy?

watch this video,
I can,t begin to tell you how many times,
Ive had guys buy parts engines or non-running muscle car projects,
who stopped by the shop to ask me to diagnose or tune or fix engines,
that were not anywhere near as the seller represented,
you may get several impressive big dollar components,
but if the whole combo does not match the intended power and rpm band,
the result in power ,made will most likely be very disappointing
and in many cases the seller was at a swap meet, or a garage sale,
when hes moving out of state, and is never too be seen again.
I had to grin, when he found the issue with the pistons, Ive seen similar screw ups!
one of the main reasons the engine was way down on power was very low compression

the static compression would be close to 8:1 at best
https://www.rbracing-rsr.com/compstaticcalc.html

throw in a decent flat tappet cam like this,
that would allow the engine to breathe reasonably well,

https://outlawspeed.com.au/shop/cr131141

and you near 6:1 dynamic compresion
https://uempistons.com/p-27-compression-ratio-calculator.html

http://www.diamondracing.net/tools/

now obviously he did not tell you the cost of the parts but at least he has decent heads, intake, carb and a block, he may obviously need new pistons and maybe rods and a rebalance job,\
and if it was my choice Id select an internally balanced 489-496 stroker crank rotating assembly with 6.385" rods as the cost will not be all that much greater,
https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sca-1-91510

considering the potentially increased power from added displacement and the compression boost,
that could and if properly built, would result, resulting from the upgrade
,
more than simply buying new pistons and connecting rods, using the existing crank,
and having the current 427 rotating assemblies with new rods and pistons rebalanced,
most stock 427 rods with 3/8" rod bolts and a stroker crank are not an ideal match if max power is the goal.
