Car had a strange consistent miss and pop in the intake above 2500 rpm. Acted like the valves were floating or weak valve springs.
I'm not real sure what I'm going to do with it right now. It definitely needs a cam and lifters but there's also a lot of "while I'm at it's" or "I might as well's" involved with going into an old motor. Throw a cam in it? Rebuild the motor? Motor swap? Not sure...
Youll want too keep in mind that all that ground-up metallic debris that resulted from the rapid wear of the cam lobe and lifter is and will continue to circulate along with the oil both through the oil pump and some will ALWAYS make it past the oil filter into the engines oil passages, theres currently bound to be an amazing AMOUNT OF METALLIC TRASH IN THE OIL SYSTEM, PASSAGES, OIL PAN and embedded in the BEARINGS along with fine metallic dust embedded in the other cam lobes, and valve train components, this is UN-avoidable, from the worn cam/lifters, failure to clean out the block will likely result in problems if you just slide in a replacement cam and lifters.THINK THINGS THROUGH! a well planed engine repair or engine swap will go FAR smoother than just randomly stuffing parts in the car

USE OF THE CORRECT MAGNETS and shrapnel screens would have prevented MUCH of the inevitable bearing damage you currently are sure to have, but its not a 100% perfect answer to the problem, although its a huge improvement..

yes you have dozens of options , yes your budget will surely limit those options, and I sure can,t decide on your course of action or options but I can sure point out what has worked very successfully in the past
