would you feel at a dis advantage hunting ELK with a lever action carbine 45lc

one of my freinds (BILL) has decided he wants to get an ELK next year with his 45 colt carbine.
his carbine meets the Colorado hunting reg.rules
now Ive hunted both deer and elk with a hand gun and Ive seen that power is not that critical if the shooter gets into a decent range and places his shop precisely. , because a properly placed shot will result in a dead elk, but you would not believe the verbal crap he gets every time he brings up the idea from the guys at our local range, its almost like many believe that anything less than a 308 win will bounce off an ELK.
the more crap he gets , the more IM temped to just use my 10" barrel S&W 44 mag revolver and go along with him

Big disadvantage. Not that it couldn't be done, but you would have to think of it closer to bow hunting. The problem is not killing the animal guick. You can't take a shot with a 45 that you can with a 338 win.

Id agree that use of the 45lc carbine will limit your effective range to about 100 yard shots, so its obviously not the ideal tool for the job,and your going to need to treat the hunt a lot like an archery hunt.
but if your willing to work within that limitation I don,t see it as being a huge handicap.
but then IVE hunted ELK and deer in archery season several times in several states during several years , and Ive used a hand gun for hunts for deer on lots of hunts for easily 35 plus years, for both deer and hogs and compared to archery or a hand gun,a 45lc carbine seems like it would be a huge advantage.
now theres zero doubt that a good 35 whelen or a 338 mag rifle has some obvious advantages over a pistol caliber carbine, but its hardly a lost cause, to use one either as long as your willing to accept the carbines limitations.
one of the guys I hunt with has a father thats used a 257 roberts SUCCESSFULLY on SEVERAL elk hunts, that may not be ideal either but in skilled hands its worked,
I guess the challenge is more in what your willing to limit yourself to, and still feel you can be successful, if getting an elk is ok, and getting a trophy is not the goal...
