The new Cobra is powered by a 6.2L Corvette V8 and comes with Porsche brake hardware
One of Britain’s oldest car companies AC Cars has announced plans for a new iteration of its classic Cobra roadster,
with the new car scheduled to appear at this week’s Top Marques Monaco.
The new MkVI recreation of the original AC Cobra has been designed from the ground up and will be manufactured at a plant in Germany for the first time.
AC has entered into a long term strategic alliance with Gullwing,
an independent vehicle manufacturer based in Germany and one of the primary elements responsible for the new gullwing door design,
featured on the GT model. There are actually two major new features on the MkVI Cobra.
Joining the gullwing doors is a brand new aluminum-hybrid body,
combining the raw metal with advanced composite materials.
Power comes from a 6.2L LS3 V8 engine sourced from the Chevrolet Corvette
and in the Cobra is offered with two different outputs.
The base ‘GT’ model develops 437hp (326kW), while
the GTS develops up to 647hp (482kW).
Weighing only about 1,025kg, (2260 lbs)the range-topping GTS,
will hit 100km/h in approximately 3.3 seconds.
Other performance elements include four-piston Porsche brake calipers,
with 332mm vented discs up front, (13")
and 298mm discs in the rear, (11.73")
and a limited-slip differential with variable powerlock.
