I was helping one of my neighbors change a clutch in his 1968 383 Plymouth road runner today.
We got it all back together and dropped it down off the jack stands ,
I started the engine and pushed in the clutch, and tried to back the car out of the drive way.
At that point I found the Hurst manual shifter would not function, so we jacked the car back up on the jack stands and got under the car and started to try to figure out what the problem was.
After trying several times to get it functional, without any luck I got on the phone to ask grumpy if there was some little trick I was obviously un- aware of!
the result was that Grumpy said he would be glad to stop by and look over the problem.
Grumpy arrived, asked to use mechanics creeper, then carefully got down on the creeper and looked over the jack stands, and slid under the car......he asked for a 1/8' drill bit and a 9/16" wrench, I,m not really sure what he did, but in about 4 minutes he asked me to try shifting the Hurst shifter, then he asked me to depress the clutch and let it loose a few times, and after a few adjustments it felt much better.
Grumpy scooted the mechanics creeper out from under the car, and suggested we remove the floor jack and jack stands.
I then backed the car out with zero problems.
Grumpy said he wished all the problems he saw were that simple, something about a shifter linkage are not being incorrectly adjusted.
I,ve got to say having 40 plus years of Experience seems to be a rather useful thing to have access too!
