Bump today Grumpy.
Look at that Awesome Square Body Race Truck out back !It took me awhile to save for my Duramax . Then another while to save for the 27" trailer, but I can tow most anything safely down the road. We store the Duramax for the winter and bring it back out around the end of May. It was just too damn expensive to drive on the salty winter roads around here. I rarely get to drive it because the wife claimed it was HER summer ride! lolView attachment 11741
The same happened to me in my Suburban about 3 years ago.I know all to well what the effects of overloading are..
Many years ago I owned a 1997 dodge v-10 4x4 with a GVWR of 8800lbs and a GCWR of 12,700lbs.
One day I was in a bind and had to get a mid size excavator down the road about 5 miles. Well, I jirry rigged an air tank to release the air brakes from the trailer (first mistake) and connected the trailer to the pintle hitch on the truck (second mistake). The truck surprisingly did not seem to complain trying to move the trailer, so I thought that being this was a road that was not traveled much and seen little traffic... I,d go for it. I was tooling down the road about 40 mph when it hit me that there was a stop sign up ahead. As soon as I touched the brakes, that trailer sent my truck sideways!!!!! Talk about a pucker factor! Well, I released my foot from the brake and floored the gas pedal and by a stroke of luck I got the truck straiten out. I down shifted the automatic
trans to help slow me down to a speed where I could use my brakes to get the rig stopped. I learned a very valuable lesson that I should have known in the first place. NEVER use an under rated tow rig!!! NO MATTER WHAT!! It,s not worth the risk for you or anyone else.
I never thought of looking till today with the main topics being towing with trucks and a good trailer.Yes, some owners manual will have info also.. I forgot about that.
Yes Grump is !He is a smart man for sure!!
Yes. I recall about 3200 lbs. That trailer is a BEAST! Is it heavy?
The floor frame cross channels are almost 4 inches deep. That trailer is a BEAST! Is it heavy?
