you've got to wonder how many idiots are out there without supervision.

I'm not really watching the T.V. but the wife brings too my attention,
a show she watched, (judge judy)
(I was forced too watch, trust me!)
anyway the short version, some gal, brings her car (ford Taurus) into some old guys auto repair shop who charges her,
$200 for a salvage yard, used transmission, in unknown condition and $700 (total-$900)
to have it installed.
the gal picks up the car and it drives about 2 blocks and the Taurus stops moving.
she has it towed to a different shop that then charges her, $1900 to change out,
what turned out to be a non-compatible, and the wrong year ford, automatic transmission,
and get the correct Taurus transmission installed.
the gals suing, the guy that charged her $900 to install the wrong trans,
that only ran for 5 minutes before failing. (yes she was awarded the asked for $900, by judge judy)
anyway , the wife asked me if I would purchase a transmission from a salvage yard,
and install a unknown condition transmission, in my or anyone elses car ?
I think the answers rather obvious.
( personally I think, its rather odd that ANYONE would expect a junked non-running car ,
that was not obviously previously in an accident of some kind,
too be sitting in a salvage yard unless a major drive train component had failed,
making its repair not worth the cost to value worth the effort!)

so to me it seemed rather odd she expected the car to run, unless the shop gave her a written warranty,
and had carefully road tested and adjusted the newly installed transmission. .

your thoughts guys?

Did she even know that it came from the junk yard? If she is poor and had no choice but to take
her chances, I can see where not everyone knows how to deal with cars and shops that repair
them. Yes it's obvious that the shop took advantage of her.
