a friend of mine asked me earlier this week what weapons i recommend he should start collecting for the end of the world as we know it, and more interestingly, why? so i took the time to explain a list to him that i think made alot of sense... he has been talking about govt conspiracies and genetic engineering and zombies and shit more and more recently... and he did drop the "ammunition is gonna be the world currency soon" line on me so i had to take a deep breath and address his question (incase shit hits the fan maybe he will remember im a good guy and let me in his doomsday shelter?)
first, a 12 gauge shotgun, remington 870. its cheap, reliable, and ammo is cheap and plentiful for your stockpile. you can hunt birds with it, and nothing makes a better close quarters (protect your home or fortress) weapon than the old scattergun.
next, an m16 or m4 based carbine chambered in .556 NATO that uses a gas piston system (not a direct impinging) like the hk416 or the leitner weiss rifles and a kalashnikov in 7.62x39 for the same reasons, take down larger game and varmits from a distance, protect your perimeter and have plenty of fight from a distance out to 200 meters easily with either one, and ammo is cheap and plentiful. the popularity of these two weapon systems is such that you can pretty much expect to pick up this ammo in most of the houses you loot looking for food and supplies
also glock pistols chambered in 9mm and .45acp. its no secret that they are the most dead nuts reliable pistols on earth, and you cant beat them for the money. i say get both 9mm and .45 because you never know what ammo you may come across... i would stockpile the 9mm ammo personally because its cheaper and pick up .45 ammo from the dorks running around with their multi-thousand dollar 1911's that cant shoot worth a shit with their match grade modifications.
next i would score a dedicated long marksman rifle chambered in .308win or 7.62 nato suck as the remington 700. with a good optic and some practice i put 308 on target at over 900meters through a remington 700 and i have to say its great to use, easy to work on, and reliable right out of the box. although i think its kind of a lightweight, you can definitely down large game such as elk with a 308, but unlike some more traditional elk hunting rounds (which i know grumpy loves) the popularity of the ammo means you can re-up at a later date should you ever run out.
finally i would get myself a ruger 10/22 because i can stock pallets of ammo and be ready, and easily hunt small game like squirrels prairie dogs rabbits etc with it. its tried and true the absolute best 22 rifle out there and its so versatile and inexpensive you shouldnt even have to argue. i think every american should get a 10/22 and a weapons safety course for their 13th birthday.
and ultimately you would probably need some edged weapons, if you know how to bow hunt, definitely stock up on everything you need for that... reusable ammo for the win there... i also think you should have a hatchet or a tomahawk for when shit really gets real GG&G make the best tomahawk ive ever seen... saw someone damn near literally get cut in half after a sharp whack with this to the clavicle:
what would you guys add or remove from the list for" must have" weapons in an end of days situation?
