10mm Reloading Advice

Grumpy I just decided to try out a 10mm I picked up a Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. I have never shot a 10mm but I like what I've heard and read about them it feels good and the trigger is good I haven't shot it yet I picked a couple of factory ammo so I can shoot right away and I've ordered the dies and some brass I have a ton of different .400 bullets from loading 40s any advice on loads, or powders I have read that this gun doesn't like max length col

the 10mm pistols (glock and 1006 & S&W)Ive used for decades both shoot best ,
with the 175- 200 grain bullet molds,
alloy used is 95% ww and 5% pure tin.
cast projectiles weighing less than about 170 grains,
don,t always have the bearing surface area/length,
that's required to grip the rifling without stripping at peak velocities
well lubed cast bullets produce far lower bore wear than jacked projectiles.
blue dot and herc 2400 has been the powder,s of choice,
I would strongly suggest you DON,T try for absolute max velocity/pressure loads as generally accuracy suffers a great deal,
and cases get damaged if unsupported
in the feed ramp area of the barrel.
while a load that's only 25-50-75 fps lower may produce very good consistent accuracy and good case life
as with all handguns precise shot placement is critical to getting good results,
hard cast bullets tend to penetrate far better/further than hollow point jacketed bullets

if you miss the games vitals thats not going to be hugely advantageous, but given the fact
,youll seldom have game standing at the precise ideal range or angle,
so extra potential penetration is generally helpful

btw, 6" aftermarket glock barrels are fairly inexpensive and are in many cases,
are designed to provide both traditional land and groove rifling that is more accurate with cast bullets,
and the tighter chambers are designed for better case head support.

hard cast 10mm 200 grain would most likely exit the second gel block in the above video

I don't load to max hardly ever I played around with some near max loads with my 45 Colt revolver but they were all by the book for the stronger actions of the Redhawk and Blackhawk loads my dies and things are supposed to be delivered today so after I get the Turkey on tomorrow I may find some play time to do some loading for this thing first loads will be a midrange load to put down the barrel for break in I have heard that this gun needs to be broken in but my first 50 rounds through it went fine without a problem

I learned about the unsupported case on a Glock 40 a couple years ago the hard way. The polygonal rifling looks it would be less likely to build up lead to me and I know the opposite is true

Grumpy I am placing a powder order and I can't find Herc 2400 I did order blue dot they list a Herc and a 2400 powder can you let me know and Grafs has a free hazmat until the end of January

Grumpy I found a nice 10mm plinking load that is real light on recoil and not bad on accuracy out of all my 10mm handguns it is 6.4 gr of Zip with 180 gr Accura HP bullets set at 1.250 with a Rem LPP primer I loaded and shot a few today and I will do a bunch more after I cast some 170 gr SWC and try this load out with the cast bullets keeping everything else the same

I dont have a chronograph so I cant answer that I did use Zip for a hotter load and its in my book as a load I liked but I really liked this load a lot of people who shoot my 10mms say its too much recoil so I believe this is a perfect load for that and its clean
