They are a PIA to work on even for a Veteran Mechanic like me.
It was shipped to me partial disassembled.
Had to clean up and reseal the Passenger outboard drive tube with Electric Servo linear actuator.
Usually I power wash clean 1st.
Opposite done.
Clean the Differential housing off last so water doesn't get inside.

The axleshaft seal are an upgrade part National makes.
Just like a modern Semi truck full floating axle hub seals.
Every single one of the Chevy GMC trucks ever made the Outboard seals leaked . Ran out of oil near 100% too and locked up trashed all.
Changed out Pinion oil seal.
In there anyhow.
$50 in new seals from my Local O'Reilly Auto.

Cleaned up pretty decent.
Daily driver doesn't need to perfect like for a Hotrod or Race Car.

I spent 1 hour this evening making the Chevy Tahoe 8.25 IFS diff look nicer.
To Really clean it up I would have to break out my 50 gallon sandblasting tank.
Go buy more blasting media, usually use Black Diamond coal slag.
Glass beads local are unavailable now, I have to special order online and it's very expensive too !
Turned out Ok. Looks like your typical GM Remanufactured item.
Found the Duplicolor Aluminum paint I used alot 6-7 years ago rebuilding.
Hard to find or not available now local any.
Have not Bought Snap On tools in a long time.
I buy Milwaukee Cordless tools now.
So handy to use and work Fantastic too.

Looking good!! Always staying busy.
Always have a Ton of projects Yes John.
They don't get done by themselves.
Going to be another Hot one today.
94 F and Humidity up around 90% here.
Super Hot.
Have to lay n my back and Man Handle the Bad Front Differential out .
Bench Press back in the Good 8.25" front Differential and get a mounting bolt started.
Cant use a floor jack or Trans jack.
Try and not drop it on my Chest or head.
Its Heavy like a Semi Truck Delco Remy 27MT & 32MT Fullsize Startr motor weighing 125 lbs.
Drop on my chest broken rib cage and Sternum. Puncture a Lung too.
No one around to help like always.
I got the 1976 Pontiac 455 engine installed all alone too.
Called for help but no one around that day too.
Do Super Human Stuff I do.
Part of being the Best Alive.
You die you die my Motto.

Time to go to work.
A 15 mph breeze blowing steady.
Feels Good even though its getting hot out.
Want to work and turn wrenches.
Get this job done today.
Try to.

The Front Differential works as it should.
4x4 High mode and 2wd drive mode works Fine.
Missing 4x4 Low.
A separate issue .
Worn out 4x4 Tranfer case Encoder motor and multifunction feedback switch assembly. Failure rate was 100% on them back in the day.
I have a spare I know works yet.
Get that installed soon.
Installed the front driveshaft with old worn out Tight U-joints for now .
New Precision Mechanics 3R U-joints are supposed to be in next week.

Went fairly smooth today.
Just Hot.
Never ate today forgot to again.
About Dinner time now.

I'm not sure that I've ever used 4x4 low other than to test it out but I don't go mudding and hill climbing like we used to do back when we were dumb and had competitions between brands and beating the hell out of our expensive trucks back then I realized that they will all go pretty much the same and how you drive them is a bigger matter than a brand name

4x4 Low I use around the Farmhouse pulling my trailer doing cleanup work , like several thousand pounds on my car trailer. Ground soft or is muddy.
Get going moving forward without spinning tires.
Deep snow its useful needed to get out of my driveway.
4x4 Low Emulates gives Super Torque like a Big Block engine 454, 455, 460, 440 cubic inch Dodge Vintage engines had in Trucks also New.

I've never been in that situation to need it but its nice to have it there just in case would you test it out sometimes just for whatever mine should work but its been years since I've used it even regular 4x4 it dont get used much except for a couple years ago on my way to work in early AM we had a surprise big snow and the farther north I went the worse it got I put it in 4 wheel and made a path for everyone else my partner was running about 1/2 hour behind me said all he did was follow my tracks but I learned that day they don't take care of the roads the same as around the city
