Ive had a couple guys ask me if the 257 weatherby or 270 win, is the best caliber for a low recoil flat trajectory deer rifle, for deer hunting the open areas where longer ranges are common.
Ive used both calibers several times on MULE DEER, ....theres not going to be any noticeable difference, in the results, you ll see, from what Ive seen from the results my, rifles or my friends rifles have produced, both are excellent deer stoppers, but ID strongly suggest the 115-120 grain bullets be used in the wby as the 87-100 grain bullets, I used, don,t tend to hold together as consistently in my experience, and that's a shame as the speer 100 grain, and Remington 100 grain, and hornady 100 grain all shoot very accurately.(they all work but expand violently, rather more than the slightly heavier bullet weights)
the 270 will work with almost any 130-140-150 grain bullet on deer, personally I prefer the 150 grain speers, or hornadys but almost all 270 bullets are designed for and work well on deer.
but ID also point out that if you own a 257 Roberts those 100 grain .257 bullets are a great match at those lower velocities, in fact AL,s dad has used the speer 100 grain to take a few ELK with his 257 Roberts
