3.54 gears are in but with a small quirk!!!

I have a 1990 Vert auto that had 2.73 gearing. Installed the 3.54 gears and also changed the plastic drive gear(15 Tooth grey) and driven gear (43 Tooth purple) for the speedo. I did NOT change the VSS as they are discontinued by GM. We did a GPS check with the following...speedo reading at 80 km/hr(49.71 mph) and the GPS reading was 80.2 km/hr(49.83 mph). With this info; it was decided not to try to find a used sensor.
Now comes the wierd thing....in o/drive slowly speeding up to 50 mph and also at 55 mph running 1800-1900 rpm approx. ;the "SHIFT LITE" comes on  . I just have to go slightly faster...2 mph and goes out in both cases. Under hard WOT past these 2 points it does not come on. I have no driveability problems because of this and no default codes are seen when scanned.
My concern at this point is will I do any damage down the road to the drive-driven-and existing VSS sensor if I do not replace the VSS? My research on the VSS shows that the 2.59 and 2.73 gears take one p/n and the 3.07-3.54-3.73 and even the 3.45 6 speed tranny take a common VSS which is the one I would need.
NOTE... its a blast to drive now with the 3.54 gearing..this ol retired guy feels young again :D :D :D
Thanks
Bill

Hi
I know this is an old thread and you probably already found the answer.
but I hope that the answer can help someone else.
The shift light is just a fuel economy device in its default configuration.
Here is a brief explanation on how shift light work.

In the auto. trans the shift light will light when the following conditions
are met for 30S!

Coolant over 50degre C
Speed over 47mph
tps Greater then 0%
Any gear but 4th
Engine speed over 1400 RPM

The ECM uses the RPM and mph to calculate what gear the car is in.
Since you changed gear the ECM think the car is in a lover gear then it is and turns on the shift light.

The service manual says it should turn on at 5200 RPM in any gear but 4th
but I never got to work.
As a side note the EARLY 90 do not have wire between the cavity G and the IP connector
guess how I know :)
You can reprogram the ECM to make it work like a real Shift light.
