I'll have a look tomorrow...
Here's the story. Drove the car put of the garage to clean it.
My wife reved the engine like a lot .
Then cleaned the car .
When she wanted to drive back into the garage.
No more movement.
I guess it will be something simple

Oh on this subject!
We found the problem here in the flange of the crankshaft ( where the flexplate mounts on)
Apparently being further to the front if the car ( or thinner) then of the engine we took out of the car.
The drive of the transmission wasn't properly engaged and the little length of the splines just sheared off.
I fitted a 1/4 " thick plate and problem solved.
We should have measured the thickness of the crankshaft flange ( I guessed they where all the same..)

We are back at this project!
We had slight " pincking "
Checked the crancking pressure at 220 psi..
This with " our" cam at 4 degree advanced...
We set it back to 0 ° and have now 205 psi...
See how this works with the 98 Octane fuel here

you might want to try retarding it 4 more degrees
from split overlap

Right engine turns again!
Less noise now from the followers.
We just couldn't get them right on a running engine.
Now sorting out some wiring issues.
80 ohms over regulator connectors...
Bought a rebuilt wire loom last year will have to fit that...

Both students are on a big learning curve.
As they have found that the chevelle wiring loom does not fit the el Camino 's dash....
Great to see them " nothavingaclueing"!

If the electrical system needs work or mods...
its all part of the learning process and while frustrating in most cases,
its also forcing them to think through options,
make adjustments and learn how components function.

IF the smarter people your instructing get a good grasp on the basic concepts of diagnostics, restoration,
and tuning, and electrical component repair & restoration,
they can make a good living in a job where the more skilled members are in demand,
perhaps you could suggest, that modifying the current wiring or using it as a rough guide to fabricate a similar but much superior, custom auto wire loom,
might not be all that difficult too do?as a learning exorcise?
making a custom mod or repair, shows skill and ingenuity.
(in fact its almost a mandatory skill in auto restoration and custom hot rod and race car fabrication.)
certainly its a skill set that will prove very useful and almost mandatory if they choose to become involved in auto repair work!
I well remember having to re-wire a friends 1966 chevelle after he had a nasty engine fire, and learning to use heat shrink tubing and correctly solder
pig tail connectors into the wiring loom certainly was not the last time I needed to do wire and connector repair work. or use a multi-meter.
you may mention that good auto wiring techs, with skills,
make good pay and are ALWAYS in demand and seldom have issues finding a job.
as always knowing a bit more than the next applicant , having a positive attitude ,
and being able too work with customers and promote sales and services can greatly increase take home pay.

wirecar.jpg

even a basic wire tech can make a living,
but with a few added skills that pay check can rather easily double,
$50-$70K for a skilled tech is rather common

You are totally right!
It is just a shame that my two students aren't really " hard " workers.
It seems a thing that I see more and more,...
We seem to live in a society where " good living " doesn't involve " hard working " anymore.
