I don,t know if its a local deal or its nation wide but finding a 427-454 Chevy big block always seems to be Much more difficult than the more common, 460 ford engines.
the ford 385 series 460 engine has a wider bore spacing and potential has a few advantages over a mild chevy big block, especially if your willing to invest in decent after market aluminum heads, since most stock 460 cylinder heads are less than ideal, like the peanut port BBC heads
the most common problem with the BBF is the stock cylinder heads in many OEM engines.
theres no doubt the availability of much better quality components becoming available in the last 6-8 years has helped the 385 series ford big block engines power potential.
