I'm using these two piece valve covers, so basically the only difference would be the
surface of the head. Mine seal just fine as long as you tighten down the bolts until
you feel the compression limiters.

GM tacks on about $100 and sells them as a set, I wish they made a very similar big block chevy set!

Nice, I like those. I didn't even know there was a 2 piece cover.

I'm going to give those gaskets a shot, they have great reviews too.
Appreciate it!

Hey everyone! Hope y'all are having a great new year.
Truck is running well, not leaking or using any oil after I replaced the oil pan gasket. A few of the valve cover bolts were too long, and weren't allowing the cover to seat properly.

Driving it more lately, and the gas mileage is terrible.
Considering a holley sniper, or doing a complete LS swap.

life has a way of unexpectedly kicking you in the nuts occasionally, like when my son passed and I moved to Texas,
I'm still recovering from a financially devastating move, where I lost a great many larger tools ,like my mill and tig welder, 5 engine stands, two large air compressors, and my car lift and a 2800 sq foot shop
and where I sold all 5 of my bbc engines simply because they were too large and heavy to pack and ship and due to medical issues (having to have both knees replaced (insanely painfully recouping so far) but I'm slowly re-acquiring the shop and tools etc.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you're enjoying Texas a little through all of that. The weather has been so mild this winter.
Glad to hear you're getting your tools and shop back together.

BIG block CHEVY

grumpy I have read several threads on this and other sites that strongly suggest the original production Chevy small block 4 bolt main cap block, is not the best choice for building a decent performance engine, due to the thin casting and tendency to have the main caps shift or squirm under...

I recently had a discussion with one of the local guys concerning what heads and rotating assembly he should buy now that he recently purchased a tall deck (10.2") big block chevy block. he has a perfectly good 427 forged crank (3.76" stroke) but hes seriously thinking of buying a (4.25" stroke)...
