Im rather amazed at times by the number of people who assume the purchase installation, of some single new component like a cam, intake or cylinder heads and having installed that part will make a very noticeable improvement in power.
the truth here is that all the components affect the help or hinder of all the others ,
your cars weight, drive train (transmission) gearing, tire diameter, differential gearing,its ignition system and advance curve,
the heads, and cam, LSA, duration and lift, your engine's displacement, its effective compression ratio, the fuel octane, the intake manifold, carb or throttle body efi, rocker ratio, headers all must match the intended power & intended RPM RANGE of that power band to maximize results
yes youll see minor improvements with added performance parts, but nothing will work to near its full potential until all the related parts are fully functional and installed, that cam, or intake that might give you 20-25 hp by itself, yet the same component will likely contribute 40%-60% more power once correctly matched to the correctly matched supporting components.
yeah this hobby is a bottomless money pit, but with experience you gain skill and knowledge and that experience tends to improve results, do the research before you buy parts, :like:settle on the REALISTIC power and rpm range you want and CAN AFFORD,
find and use a decent machine shop and trusted experienced machinist, DO THE RESEARCH NEVER ASSUME!
and only purchase those components designed to help increase and match the results you want.
few people can afford to do everything all at once, prioritize durability,verify clearances and lubrication, cooling etc.
if parts constantly break, its self defeating and very expensive
