Theres several hundred different kits and each has its limitations and advantages
I was sitting in and driving my brother-in-laws cobra kit car recently,
its light weight, and even with a stock 302 ford its fairly quick for a street car, and it certainly gets attention where ever its driven, but its far too small
(at least in my case as the top of the windshield frame is directly in line with my eye level)
Im 6'3" and about 245 lbs so its a bit of a problem getting the access to the clutch,brake accelerator petals easily.
yes its a fun kit car, but I would have swapped a 427 or 477 BBC in it the first week I owned it.
yet you can,t ignore the fact the cobra kit cars fun to drive, its performance potential due to its light weight is substantial, and if you care.. its an attention magnet!

KIT CAR.jpg Started to build 1,but no time to finish it. Bought it from a local owner wayback in the day.Was a Fiberfab Jamaican on a vw shortened frame & vw powered.It was running.

Be Fun with a Hopped up Porsche VW engine.

Problem with projects & Racecars.

Racecars take alot of money to build put back together to compete and win.

Got the 87 Corvette & 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix running driving reliable.
Almost all Funds going into the 1970 Trans Am RAIV455 4-speed in 2019.

Got some Racecars sidejobs to do with My Bud Crazy Ed this summer.
Hopefully Net spare $4-5k cash for us to get out & race both again.

Told Ed I have 4.30 gears for the Trans Am, replied back those are Low Gears !
Think I can do 10.5 ET before the Big Nitrous Hit.....He smiled ear to ear.

Potholes.
Tear up that Chaperal.

Pretty hard on a C4 Corvette now.

Grand Prix glides right over potholes.
 
while I was getting my truck fueled, here in TEXAS
a guy in a really clean, shiny black, custom car
(cheeta replica with an LS engine pulled in)
that sure brought back a lot of memories






back in the late 1990s I helped a local guy build a rather serious, BBC engine he stuck it in a cheeta kit car he had built,
(keep in mind technology constantly changes, high octane fuel availability ,
varies and this engine was build on a limited budget, back about 25 years ago.)

since I knew he intended to use the car as a daily driver at times we modified the oil pan, adding baffles and a significantly larger oil capacity,
the engine was nothing exceptional,
it was a .030 over bored 454 with 13:1 compression pistons,
1.7:1 roller rockers
a crower hydraulic roller that was basically this cam
a set of brodix aluminum small rectangle port heads, with about a 310cc port's
a high rise single plane intake from brodix,
with a 950 cfm three barrel carb
and headers we custom built, with 2.25" primary pipes were about 32" long going into a custom 4" collector
that was about as long as the car would allow to fit, we had it chrome plated and a perforated head shield installed to reduce leg burns,
its amazing what you can custom build & fabricate with a tig welder once you learn to weld
he never had the engine dyno tested, as far as I know,
but the car had a modified ford 9" differential with 3.90 rear gears ,and some really nice aftermarket disc brakes
and very large tires , that barely fit the impressively large wheel wells
a modified TH400 with a 3800 rpm stall converter and it was very scary to drive
he road raced not drag raced the car, so the rear gear limited top speed , but he could sure accelerate out of the corners

personally I prefer the AC COBRA body style but there was no contest as to which local car could accelerate around a course of traffic cones at an abandoned air port runway the local road race guys used frequently
I know several of the local guys with 10 second 1/4 mile cars that could not come close to catching his cheeta on that road course
