buying a short barrel AR15 (pistol)

I think AR pistols are a novelty they are awkward to shoot you cant shoulder it like a rifle and you cant one hand it like a pistol, I've had one for years and it never leaves the safe in a SHTF situation it would be one of the last guns I'd grab

now you may not agree, but with minimal practice there is a way to make use of an AR15 pistol rather rapidly lethal for use on a a cantaloupe size target at 25-50 yards, making use on a coyote, or a human opponent at across the living room, or across the back yard distances absurdly easy.
use of a sling helps consistency a great deal.
the "SECRET " to their effective use, in my opinion, is closely related to use of.
a pair of very bright green laser pointer's for rifle/ handgun use.
the type that have easy access on buttons or motion sensor on buttons helps
your not going to use the handgun like a typical rifle or handgun, raising it to be easy to line up with your eye.
I've found firing from the hips very easy with practice
the key here is a different mindset, its the use of bright green laser pointers,I found a place to mount a pair of them, one on the upper and one on the lower barrel shroud, set one on steady bright green and the other on STROBE setting,
I sight the upper on in at 50 yards and the lower one in at 100 yards, that gives you two bright vertically stacked points you can see in daylight but even better in the dark, you need to use the arm brace like its designed to be used, strapped around your forearm
you don't use the ar15 handgun up at eye level, use it from the hip and get used to looking at and simply using the bright dots as an aim point,
once you do, you'll find with even minimal practice, you'll be very easily able to blast a cantaloupe size target at 25-50 yards much faster and much more consistently than you can do with other HANDGUNS or even some carbines,
yeah I know your reading this.. thinking the guys full of it!.. buy the lasers, sight it the gon so you know that the gun hits where the lasers point and try it.... a few magazines with the use of a laser and a sling ... and a willingness to learn a new skill....will change your mind
youll want a handguard the allows both upper and lower laser pointer mounts

I'm not trying to say they are junk maybe caution people who may want one and then get disappointed after getting one I will say for me I'm not impressed now they were a lot easier to shoot before the pistol brace was made illegal for whatever reason just like the bumpfire stock I will say my advice to anyone who wants to buy an AR pistol try to rent one or find someone who has one and try it out and maybe you will like it maybe not I wasn't real happy with mine but we all have our own shooting style GOOD LUCK

the advice to rent or try one a friend owns before you buy one is darn good! :like:
and Id also strongly suggest they are mostly a toy, not really something that's ideal in most situations,
but my son has one with a 12" barrel in caliber 300 blackout and likes his,
that I have found is that if you carry one on a single point carry sling ,
with it strapped to my forearm ,with the green lasers on, maybe looking like the "TERMINATOR" it does function,
as an effective deterrent, if you have your trash cans being knocked over frequently...
it works reasonably well when correctly adjusted, its reasonably fast to deploy and accurate enough,
to blast opossums raccoons and coyotes from 40-50 yards on my sons rural ranch in texas,
which makes it not totally useless. (yeah if we were not in a really rural area it could not be used)
anyway he seems to think its "IDEAL" even if I prefer a 24" ar15 in caliber 6.8 spc

as with most of the ATFE regs, a good portion are made up sometime in the past with very little logic used,
by federal bureaucrats , who lacked much in firearm knowledge ,other than a strong desire,

to make the civilian ownership difficult and if at all possible taxable,:like: and able to force the creation of a new, federally funded,
GOVERNMENT agency that would provide jobs and managerial positions for people, that wanted to make up rules, and feel important,
as they went along through life, while looking to retire with a fat federal pension, based on decades of enforcing rules they made up!

so they can tell themselves ,that their efforts save lives...... when any 5 year old can point out a glaring potential flaw....in their ideas,
remember criminals by definition ignore laws, do you think for a single second, that your average drug dealer or gangster,
worries, if he's carrying a weapon that has a feature, or two, that fails to exactly comply with all the federal regs?:cwl:

remember if any technology exists that can be used to benefit the criminal minority, that's fairly easy to use.. it gets USED!

looks like TEXAS is coming around to reality, :like:
that its the firearm operator,
not the gun that is guilty of any action committed with it!
only a total idiot  thinks criminals , :swearing:
that want to do mass killings, armed robberies
etc, obey ANY laws anyway

does anyone think a sticker like this on a door would prevent a mass shooting

if you do you need serious psychological help!
the only thing that sign does is SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE the odds that some customers' ,
might be able to defend the rest of the customers should some maniac start shooting

if these businesses were held legally & financially liable,
for your safety once they posted a similar sign,
and forced to provide adequate , well trained, armed,
security personnel during operational hours
we would very rapidly see those insane signs removed
here is how well strict gun laws work
where civilians are disarmed

one factor has remained consistent for thousands of years:like:
crime rates drastically fall,

if the RISK .
TO CRIMINALS IS INCREASED,
BECAUSE CIVILIANS ARE ARMED
AND
POTENTIAL PUNISHMENT, IF CAUGHT
FOR CRIME ,IS MUCH HIGHER :like:

Yes, Texas Senate Bill 1596 (SB 1596), which would remove short-barreled firearms from the state's list of prohibited weapons, has passed the Texas Legislature and is awaiting the governor's signature. The bill passed the Senate on April 16, 2025, and the House on May 28, 2025. It's expected to reach Governor Abbott's desk soon.

expected to go into effect sept 1 2025

largely symbolic, as its state law not federal rules,
but a big push to legalize some NFA items in civilian hands
