Convertible Boot Cover Issues

Ok, your personal experience is what I’m after here.
My 1968 Pontiac convertible - I obtained an NOS factory boot cover with the snap buttons.

Two problems -

1st., The buttons are not that tight. They do snap on but they can pull off easily. I’m worried that I’ll be rolling down the road and it blows off. Is there any trick to making them fit tighter?

2nd., Along the back edge of the rear seat back there is a channel where the boot itself has a round cord that runs about 4 ft long. Is there a trick way to get that cord to fit in the channel? I’m half tempted to use a screw driver but I know dam well I’ll screw it up for good.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Rich... go to your local sewing shop or hobby lobby... they will have a kit for removing and installing new snaps... Prolly only $20
You get a pair of pliers and an assortment of new snaps.

I bought one for myself because the snaps on some of my shirts get worn and don't hold ... It was a great investment.

Now that’s something I didn’t think of. I thought of taking a pair of pliers and squeezing the snaps on the cover very slightly to make them a tiny bit oval in shape. I never installed them but a few years ago when I noticed a snap missing on the car I bought a pack of 4 snaps. They have a screw built into the snap and it installs with a Philips driver.

It’s the fitting of the 1/8” (or smaller) spline that’s on the parade boot that has to fit into the grove on the top rear of the back seat that is bothering me now.
You would think it’s just a matter of applying pressure with your thumb to make the two parts fit, but not in real life! The plastic is too soft to use some sort of metal tool, a screwdriver for instance so I will try and come up with something plastic and ridged to avoid damage.

You would think there would have been something about this on a YouTube video - nope!

I've never had a convertible so I can't visualize what you are up against. Is there something you
could 3D print to fit your application ?

Is there something you could design to fix your problem and then 3D print the item.

I have many talents, engineering and design is not one of them. I don’t have access nor own a 3 D printer.

Ok, yesterday I figured it out (how to get the cord attached to the parade boot to go into the corresponding grove on the rear seat). I simply unsnapped the cover and started feeding the cord into the slot at one end pulling it through and then button up the snaps.
