Extended wheelbase T bucket

Tungsten is glowing. The polarity is set. Stinger is solid to machine. I have had the gas flow up to 25 cfh and as low as 15 cfh and don’t see a difference. Using a number 8 gas lense and a number 12 gas lense. I can watch the trash build up in my tungsten if I hover over the puddle. I think I may take the TIG class again and take my machine with me!

Maybe your using the wrong Tungsten for steel or Chrome Moly your welding to.

What is the tungsten, I use 2% thoriated for carbon steel or mild steel . It should be red color coded.

Make sure a Fan is not blowing direct on You.
It Blows the Argon shielding gas away.
It takes alot of practice to TIG Weld Nice.

My Bud Ed became a Night Owl.
Stays up all night TIG welding now.
Its the coolest time of the day in Summer time Heat.
He also installed central air in his garage to keep up cool.
When I get off of work at 5 I go over.
He just gets up for the day.
Work till 8-10 pm with him.
Took tonight off.

Are you using PURE argon?
Are you sharpening the tungsten the correct way?

Yes and yes. I know if argon/co2 sits you need to roll the tank on the floor a few minutes to remix but I don’t feel the need with argon. The bottle is about 3 years old. Maybe I’ll call my supplier for suggestions.

Check the o-ring(s) where the torch connects to the welder. Over time they dry out and crack.

Miller says-
After welding, the surface of the tungsten should be shiny and bright. If it appears dull and hazy gray, an excessive amount of current for the diameter selected may be the cause. If the tungsten appears blue to purple or blackened, there is insufficient postflow time of the shielding gas.

You might be on to something now! My tack welds seem to be nice and bright but the longer welds are gray. I do have a slow travel speeds to fill gaps (not a real good fitter). Need Rick more often! Lol. I’m using 3/32 tungsten and 125 amps and 25 cfh with a Furic 12 cup. I have some 1/8” tungsten. It’s pure and I have been using 2 percent lanthanated tungsten.

Lanthanated tungsten should be fine. Pure is for AC with aluminum or magnesium.
I would try the 1/8" (2% thoriated), but why such a large cup? Go smaller.
Also give it a try without the gas lense, especially if it is covered in trash.

My budget can’t stand that yet. If I don’t figure it out I may have to go that way. Eastwood has one around $100.
