have you ever put off buying a rifle, you knew you really wanted, but put off buying it because you had something similar? then once you bought it ,wondered what took you so long, and then found out that that rifle suited you almost exactly.
now its not Like I need a rifle as Ive got a couple, and I mostly hunt ELK and that's covered and I can,t think of any other game I could not hunt with my current battery, but I handled a BLR in 450 marlin several years ago, and bought it after A buddy offered me a great price on my marlin 45/70, figuring it was more or less a clone to the marlin in my battery to be used for hunting dark timber .
well the marlin 45/70 was a really nice dependable rifle, that I used for many years, in our ELK camp, loaded mostly with 420 hard cast or 405 grain Remington bullets at about 1800fps or 350 grain hornadys at near 2000fps
but after several hunting trips with the BLR I'm rather impressed and glad I swapped, its a tiny bit more accurate than my old marlin , (not that its really noticeable) but the BLR cycles smoother and seems to handle a bit easier, point faster in my hands.
I'm really glad I swapped and several of my friends have since purchased similar rifles after seeing mine, and using it at the local range!
now obviously if you've studied the cartridges ballistics you know that this calibers best when used at under 250 yards but hunting dark timber and jump shooting ELK as you sneak thru blow downs etc that's not a problem in most cases
