How Many Guys Have Built Their Own Car Trailer?

heres pictures I found posted for a small mobile home trailer converted to a car transport trailer
I know several guys that have, some made really nice trailers, that were better than the resulting cost would have allowed them to buy used. but remember that the cost of the axles , tires, welding supplies sheild gas and mig wire or welding rods if you arc weld, and structural steel normally runs $700-$1200 MINIMUM , and that price is likely to steadily increase over the years,
depending on what your building, and if your not at least semi skilled at welding this may not be the ideal first project, as a chop saw and a good deal of measuring and fabrication skills required, but your darn sure going to learn to weld by the time your done! so check out used trailers with THAT COST IN MIND before jumping into the PROJECT

one of the local guys picked up a older 1990 corvette as a project car,
he had to rent a car transport trailer locally for about $100 a day, to get it home.
now hes convinced he needs a car transport trailer ,
which is always a good idea if your seriously into performance cars and restorations.
I suggested he look around for a deal on a used car transport trailer in great condition,
I told him to look around and shop, as theres always guys getting divorces, losing jobs,
losing interest in cars, or for some other reason,
wanting to sell or upgrade to a better car transport trailer.
well he checked out a few adds and the local craigs list locally and the prices and selection were not to bad..
but he wanted to check out the cost of materials to build one,
he though the prices quoted were way to high,
we sat down and got on the internet and checked local trailer parts store prices,
on axles ,springs, tires, wheels, trailer tongue parts, hitch parts, trailer jack, fenders,
frame steel, bed plates, ramps etc.
it soon became very VERY obvious you can't economically fabricate a decent trailer from new parts at todays component cost.

either starting from scratch, or buying a trailer in need of being rebuilt or modified
IS one more in an endless list of reasons,
you might want to own and know how to use a decent mig welder,
and ID strongly suggest you select a MIG with at least a 220 volt/180 amp rated capacity

I saw an add for plans for an air bag suspended trailer. It was $70 bucks and I thought if I needed a trailer I would start there.
