how sharp do you keep your knife blades?

when I get bored watching T.V. I have occasionally grabbed a few of my quality knives and taken the time to put a true razor shaving sharp edge on the blades, well, as a result, most of my carry and fighting knives have blades, you can or could easily shave with.
yes if you get careless, you'll pay a price,
my dad always said.... if your dumb you got to be tough!

you can easily and effortlessly, shave with, my fighting knives , because my wife selects some of those stupid old re-run murder mystery's and 1970-80s game shows to watch.
(lots of time to sharpen blades)
well I picked up one today and it slid about 1/2" out of the sheath and as a result I accidentally touched the blades edge..on my kukri.....
you guessed it, right to the damn bone on one finger tip, with no effort at all,
I turn to the wife and said...... get me some paper towels and some super glue....
and the large band-aids in the medical kit.... she starts to ask why I need it,
and sees the rather obvious answer on my shirt,
as I hold the finger next to my chest to apply pressure.
since Ive cut myself dozens of times working on cars or practicing various martial arts,
shes familiar with the drill, but shes not happy...
its minor , I doubt its worth more that 1-2 stitches at most,
but a bit of antiseptic and pressure and super glue and a couple larger band-aids will do for now.
mines similar but not this brand

Dad's message was to last you a life time, lest you forget it will happen again as you get older.

Im always amazed at the guys that spend a great deal of cash on a custom skinning knife used for hunting,
I see guys not even blink, at spending well over $100 or even $200 on a basic high quality tool
I own all three of these knives and the upper knife that costs significantly less than the lower two ,
does a very credible job, and for the price I feel its by far the best value, under $20 on sale and it holds a true razor edge for a decent time
now the much more expensive cold steel knives work ok, but they are certainly not twice let alone five times as good

I coon hunted and trapped most of my life. My skinning knives were also razor sharp. I use to have a broken porcilin plate that I would keep in my skinning cabin and swipe the knife after every hide was removed, then I'd hit it on an old leather saddle strap. I stopped hunting and trapping back in 2012. Today I just have a couple pocket knives (oldtimer, and a nice Kershaw that my son gave me when he married). Though not as sharp as my skinning knives, I still can shave the hair off my arm with them.
I have guys here at work that give me their pocket knives to put an edge on for them once in awhile.

I bought a Remington gut hook knife for $80.00 at Wally World. My oldest son wanted to know how sharp it was and thonked it on his forearm. I turned around and headed to the Hospital to sew him up. He said -DAMN THAT'S SHARP-- and I said did you learn anything today? He said ya,, I want do that again!!! !6 stitches and $500.00 later and I said you better not or you will be paying for it (the bill). Costed more than the Mtns. trip all together.

I have a nice Stiletto switch blade I bought from the tool guy Snap On Grumpy.
Have not had to use it this far.
Get into the city I carry it.

Never take a knife to a gun fight.
I always open carry where ever I go...
That's another reason I cut the sleeves off my dress shirts... :D
You can't get through security or metal detectors with a 44 magnum long barrel.
Nor with a 45 ACP.

You can get through Stiletto.
