Well my latest quest is to find a METAL ALL METAL thermostat Housing for a 2000 Toyota 2.2 4 cylinder (Seems this engine began around 1992 to about 2003)
as this silly car has a PLASTIC thermostat housing which with about 135K JUST BROKE APART, luckily I caught it in the driveway.

I believe such a failure will dump all the coolant out so fast the temp gauge will never know it and the only warning you may get is your engine sizing and dieing fast.

There was a METAL version for this part, like an earlier model!! (I did find them listed for a 97 Toyota 2.2 and older)

I will withhold my rant about almost all the repairs I am doing nowadays on all my cars is failing PLASTIC parts…

PS I am looking into importing 10 or more from China, for my own use and to resell to others.

I have been playing with cars from 1965, and only once did I need to replace a metal thermostat housing, it was very old and had corroded badly.

And all it did was leak, a small leak.

It did not fall apart into two peices.

just as a bit of info ROCK AUTO has a wide selection of parts,
and while a significant percentage might be cheap quality foreign , made semi junk,
they also have much better quality parts in inventory, so don't assume everything they sell is junk quality,
Ive bought things like engine mounts and name brand u-joints that were brand name and not knock off replica parts

I know but they can only sell what they can get. I have been beating the bushes and used is all I can find and both those eBay sales have a problem, one the used one for $29. is OK BUT he wants $49.00 shipping...I am waiting for a reply, I found a real dirty one for $26.00 and free shipping but I asked for a picture of the bottom as he did not show it and that is were any corrosion may happen and again I am waiting for an answer.

Id order that linked one from rock auto in the mean time
